CSR and Sensory have teamed up to give speech recognition on Bluetooth headsets and car kits by incorporating Sensory's FluentSoft Suite into CSR's BlueCore5-Multimedia platform.
Speech recognition will accept users to issue express commands to control functions such as confirming a valid cerebrate checking battery level and dialing frequently called phone numbers. Such functions today are implemented using combinations of buttons and press-and-hold intervals for the buttons.
Remembering these combinations is a contend for many users. This in turn limits the number of functions currently available on headsets. Sensory has in fact added extra functions such as "check battery" and "what can I say?" which prompts the headset to provide a verbal list of the valid optional phrases for that particular situation.
Sunnyvale CA-based Sensory's SX speech synthesis trechnology is also integrated to complement FluentSoft thus enabling real-time express prompts and confirmations as well as back up on device operations such as pairing.
Sensory has ported its speech technology to other processors including the ARM9 but also offers its own chips that are essentially speech-enabled microcontrollers that typically regenerate standard microcontrollers in a CE or toy design but add basic speech functionality.
FluentSoft is speaker independent and does not require training. The largest active setwords that the technology is trained to recognize during a specific use scenariois 16 words. But numerous sets are available depending on the use scenario.
CSR's BlueCore5-Multimedia functionality is enabled by the affiliate's embedded Kalimba DSP core. It offers a signal-to-noise ratio of -95dB and ultra-low cater consumption.
Although CSR has announced its next-generation BlueCore6 this version does not as yet integrate the Kalimba DSP core out.
The communicate transmits at +8dBm and receives at -90dBm which eliminates interference when listening to music or taking a call. When used in stereo headset applications. BlueCore5-Multimedia enables battery life of more than 12 hours of music playback.
CSR's integration of Sensory's technology is the latest example of its create by mental act.
Working with third-party software vendors. CSR has delivered a wide be of software plug-ins for the on-chip DSP further reducing create by mental act cycle time while allowing enough power to support future software enhancements.
"Without speech recognition product designers undergo been constrained in form factor features and user interface," said Sensory CEO Todd Mozer. "Our FluentSoft Bluetooth Suite ported to the popular BlueCore5-Multimedia unleashes designers' creativity to add custom features and deliver a user experience that was not possible before."
Anthony Murray. Senior Vice President of CSR's Audio Strategic Business said the added functionality is "good news for the automotive market as we can now provide a single-chip solution with Bluetooth technology and speech recognition considerably reducing manufacturing costs of hands-free car kits and embedded Bluetooth designs."
