"RDI present a faster way to learn the Quran" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:04:37

The Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) once said. “The best of you are those who learn it and teach it.” With that in object. Research and Development International (RDI) created a schedule called “Hafss” designed to help Muslims whether young old man or woman to read the Quran better. RDI presented the project at a conference attended by many religious scholars as well as ministry officials and businessmen from various technology companies. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs signed a contract with RDI to create its new comprehensive Quran Sciences Encyclopedia web portal. Here RDI is deploying its Quran tools as well as its novel technology for the self-learning of tajweed (proper Quran recitation). Hafss is based on the “Hafss an Assem” write of Quran reading – this style one of seven based on the recitations of historical Muslim figures dictates how to pronounce certain letters and words. The schedule is based on the technology of "speech recognition," which guides the users and informing them with their mistakes. Basically the computer would read out the word or phrase to the student then the student would repeat it into a microphone. If pronounced correctly the computer will say that it is correct. However if the student pronounces it wrong the computer points out the error and repeats the evince correctly. The new program is intended as back-up for those who do not have the time money or teacher available to give them one-on-one help. Mohsen Rashwan engineering professor at Cairo University and one of the founders of RDI said that the one thing that makes Hafss different from other methods of learning is that it was created after many years of research in speech technology. "It also provides its students with the necessary environment to allow them to read it in the way it is supposed to be read," added Rashwan. Apart from helping people read the Quran correctly. Hafss can also assist in learning spoken Arabic and other languages. RDI is currently in negotiations with European partners about adapting it to back up teach spoken European languages. RDI was established in 1993 with the aim of developing a locate that would alter raw ideas emerging from academia into workable prototypes as well as provide an incubator for these prototypes that would allow further development until they reach the re-create of commercial interest. “Realizing leadership and innovation in CIT worked through an economically successful corporation that provides outstanding products and services contributing to the development of society." Their conceive of is to one day find Muslims from all around the world visiting their website to learn the Quran.

"Dare I ask what RDI is??" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:58:14

I see RDI mentioned A LOT here. Dare I ask what RDI is? I undergo the link and did some looking around the website. But sometimes I need a parental explanation on what things are to exceed understand them. Especially before I dive into anything. Which I have a apparel of doing!! So anyone care to dumb it down for me? I'll take a stab at this then Mili our resident expert can go along and change by reversal me. RDI-Relationship Development Intervention identifies social/emotional gaps in your child's development and then designs a schedule of activities to aid you and your child to change in those areas. The different thing from other therapy programs is that it is designed to actually create the neurology involved so that the social /emotional development becomes a natural part of the child's personality instead of just building the skills or rules so they hit the books to "act typical." I choose of get that!!! LOL Do they have a book/series/set that I can buy to do it myself? Instead of doing the seminar or whatnot. Peg wow how do you do that in less than 10,000 words!!!I haven't read any other the books others have there's a thread going on alter now with recommendations ugh... I can't sight the go! The cater and glory of music is that it’s an honest thought. It’s not about note perfect it never ever has been all the best music in the world is practically nearly unmusical. It’s about feeling drama content. If you be to experience what punk is its real emotion it’s not studded belts and legs apart and tuff looks and silly eye-liner make-up. That isn’t punk. "ABA, Floortime, RDI: Do you combine teaching methods?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 17:29:52

We are going to be starting a program with our son that combines RDI and ABA. The private therapist feels ABA alone doesn’t communicate the social deficits of autism. I know ABA by itself would be too rigid for our son. I’m hoping to see more providers amalgamate various methods together to determine which approach best suits the child. He is responding come up to floortime but we be to undergo hit a plateau hence our arouse in bringing in a stronger behavioral component without discarding the joy and affection of floortime. I believe RDI follows much the same philosophy as DIR. But as parents we’re so uncertain if we’re doing the right thing. Does anyone have an opinion on combining methods? has been the most for my son Charlie and his particular educational needs. He has been doing home ABA therapy since he was just over two years old; since he was about 4 1/2 he has been in a be of self-contained 1:1 special education classrooms that use ABA. The speech therapists whom Charlie has worked best with have all had some training in ABA. Charlie is currently in a self-contained ABA classroom housed in an elementary school in our town and also has three home ABA sessions a week; his home program is supervised by the Lovaas agency. From reading about Floortime and RDI and observing these in learn and from my own observation of Charlie’s preference for a certain be of structure and predictability when he is in an educational setting. ABA seems to be the educational methodology beat suited for his learning needs. But. ABA can really differ depending upon the provider. ABA programs that recall 1960s-style “behavior modification,” require that a child do ten trials of a schedule at a delay and that generally take a mechanistic view of learning and of teaching have not been successful with Charlie. Under some of these programs some of Charlie’s difficult behaviors (such as SIBs) have gotten worse. The history of behavioral science contains more than a few troubling details such as the use of aversives and I evaluate that as a parent it is essential to be aware of this history and of as many different teaching methodologies as possible. While Charlie’s ABA therapists act careful data and inform him in a highly structured manner they are trained to be flexible and fluid in their teaching (there is no requirement that Charlie has to do X be of trials at the delay before he can go) in how they communicate to him in where they inform him—while playing games outside on his scooter around the accommodate—and in as many ways as possible. Our ABA consultant emphasizes that sessions have to be motivating and fun for Charlie; if he is struggling with a schedule we talk about how the therapists be to adapt their teaching. The therapists go Charlie’s bring about. Indeed. I think he has learned so well with ABA because his best therapists always create a real relationship with him and too compassion and fondness. (A former therapist left a comment a few days ago—-I had lost contact with her and was thrilled to get approve in touch.) For Charlie a really good ABA therapist is able almost intuitively to combine methods. Charlie needs ABA as the core out of his education just as much as the college students I teach acknowledge having outlines to lectures syllabi to show them what will come about in a semester and clear guidelines about the course goals and requirements. And as a teacher. I have to experience when to bend the rules and mix and amalgamate. I appreciate your description of ABA with regards to Charlie’s program. I have not sought ABA out for Pete mostly because I’ve been successful with other methods and haven’t felt the be. I worked with autistic kids before I had my own children and undergo a very negative impression of ABA because of what I saw…and yes the history of Lovaas isn’t always pretty. Again. I’m glad to have my eyes opened to another view. It seems like Charlie’s ABA schedule is very flexible and progressive very much taking Charlie as an individual into account. I think this is how all therapies should be! ABA is the only option in my area but the Speech Therapists available use different methods such as Floortime and SCERTS so the kids are exposed to different types of therapy. In any case my son’s learning is not restricted to the therapy hours and I develop my own methods for teaching him new concepts during play and daily interactions. Things I’m focusing on right now: storytelling/reading; using his favorite scripts from videos/preschool computer games to help him conclude that language to real situations. The ABA consultants that Charlie has now have a very different believe about dealing with self-stimulatory behaviors and with how the programs are done. One therapist was emphasizing to me how the Lovaas agency trains them to be flexible—-we’ve been training a new therapist whose accent is in special ed autism and ABA but done as “10 trials and then the reinforcer.” It’s been a bit hard for the new therapist to bury doing things. Not knowing the age of the child it’s hard to suggest an accessible schedule. My son seemed to do best with Integrated compete Groups in preschool/Kindergarten. He has taken what he learned about social interaction and has been able to bear on that on his own since. (he’s 7 now) It’s simply a directed play measure with peer friends under the guidance of trained teachers or aides. They most often had come in games or cooking. Peer friends seemed to be the best teaching tools for modelling. The problem with RDI and Floortime (and SonRise for that matter) is that there’s not much of a reason to evaluate they do anything. It’s not too different to trying biomed object that maybe they have less potential for harm. change surface ABA although mainstream is not very convincing. It’s an interesting inspect of “the emperor has no clothes” IMHO. There is a large quantity of studies on ABA to be sure but not much quality of methodology. Also. AFAIK there are no studies on ABA that look at any potential adverse effects. Another way to be at educational models is as drive kits. And if a tool from a different kit seems suited for a particular task it makes sense to use it. I’ve come to see ABA as at the core of Charlie’s education; some ABA-type methodology can be open in some other educational protocols. But more than anything else. I’m interested in good teaching for Charlie in whatever “method” or “technique” works best. In truth it is the relationships he has formed with his many therapists aides and teachers that undergo very much helped him. We use ABA which for us may include procedures of errorless learning precision teaching incidental teaching time delay sometimes discrete trial the analysis of verbal behavior… but a given procedure depends on what we are teaching and whether the “sign conditions” chosen work as indicated by evaluate of acquisition AND my daughter’s affect arouse and other behaviors. (For example–if the goal is hypothetically “colors” but the procedure is not improving things in learning colors and/or making her miserable then that was a bad choice of how to inform that skill or we need to examine and care for what prerequisite is missing or is there a more meaningful or clear way.

"Biking and stuff" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-03 18:44:17

Last Wednesday. I started taking a morning ride go. Not every day; so far the schedule's been Monday. Wednesday. Friday. Hoping to fasten to that. Doing some crunches and pushups when I get in as come up which frankly are more exertion than the ride. Latest addition to the mix is going for the ride before having eat so I destroy fat instead of breakfast. At least that's the theory. Objective is mostly to improve cardio and affect the hit; any weight loss that results will be a bonus. Not that I'd object since I'm currently about 40 lbs overweight. (210 would desire to get down to 170.)Inspiration for this came from two sources: this story on and talking to my dad who at the age of 86 is doing exercises and walking every day. He's got an agenda behind his newfound enthusiasm for apply viz continuing his aversion to getting a pacemaker implanted but if he's going to be out there every day damned if I can get off my adjoin atl east three times a week. I'm aiming to do at least five miles a day which should take me about 20; today I did about 20 if the explore Maps-based pedometer I use is to be believed with a couple of break in a little over an hour and half. Go me!

"Got my RDI Book!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 17:32:16

Thought you'd desire to experience I got my book!!!! I ripped that bad boy open as soon as the UPS man dropped it off and just started reading and WOW! I like that it takes a developmental come (I'm a Human Development & Family Studies major with a psychology minor - so I could totally relate to what was being said). I haven't gotten too far into it just yet - but from what I've construe so far - I'm impressed! This is just too cool!I also discussed this with one of my professors this morning after categorise (I have a 9 am categorise to 1:30 pm categorise every other Saturday - yuck!) and she said that she was familiar with RDI and that it could be very effective when done correctly but breaks down if not used across all settings (she is aware of our previous school problems so knows this would be an air but when I told her we were cyberschooling she said if anyone could do this successfully I could so... ). Milli. I also told her you and Vince were my inspiration for this and shared your "shopping - pants falling drink story" with her and she thought it was the coolest thing. Anway. I'm off to watch the kids run around in the backyard and sit on my porch displace to construe. This is the schedule I got: Relationship Development Intervention with Young Children -Social and Emotional Development Activities for AS. Autism. PDD. & NLD by Steven Gutstein and Rachelle Sheely: You may also be able to sight this a little cheaper at Ebay com OMG Gwyn that all sounds so fantastic! I love that you are impressed already. I like that you 'get' the approach (omg that took me soooooo long) and you can already cerebrate to what's being said. I'm just so pleased so so please you just don't experience. And it sounds like your professor actually IS familiar with it because of the mention she made. Very true. Oh man what a joy what a rush. I'm really glad to comprehend all this. Sounds like you are going to be cruising in this as will your daughter with you guiding her. Just wonderful!Congratulations!Mili Yeah she's one of my human development professors with a doctoral degree and private learn in counseling who specializes in do by and trauma. She volunteers for the Red go across and took a few weeks off when Katrina hit to go to counseled individuals affected. She also was a student of conjoin Adams' (bequeath the adulterate who wore a clown nose and used humor to make patients conclude exceed?) She's awesome and really gets the principal's behind RDI though she's never actually used RDI per se herself. comfort it's nice to undergo that kind of support. This book gives excellent advice to parents on ways for parents to help their autistic child create socially. The principles are laid out clearly and activity descriptions are easy to go. Unfortunately for us the beginner activities are nearly all too difficult for my child. As the book makes the objectives for each activity clear parents can if necessary invent easier activities to meet them. I would recommend it but I understand the authors no longer do saying that RDI has moved on since its publication and that the book no longer represents what RDI is about. I went and checked the RDI website to see what schedule may have replaced this one but couldn't really find one.. unless it's move of one of those $150 jobbers.. which I am SO not buying... Mili what did you do the seminar or a book or both??? Gynwhyver with your accent. I ordain follow your lead if you think this is worth it... I'm just a little nervous about flying blind particularly with the statement your professor made: If I could name the hit most significant obstical in Coley's development/learning it would be his inflexibility.. this is not something that is addressed in his IEP so with the tiny bit of information/experience that I undergo with this. I'm thinking I could get a better understanding then discuss it with school with the intention to have his IEP modified and ask that RDI techniques be used. I saw this book also: Actually. I wanted to talk to you guys about his inflexibilty too... I've never really talked about it mostly because there is so much more to broach with but there are a bring together behaviors that I totally don't know how to command and when it comes up it gets REALLY UGLY REALLY fast.. maybe in the converse dwell??? Ok.. that's a lot.. what are your thoughts? I did the DVD and the Seminar. No books yet. I'm sure there have been and ordain act to be changes in RDI since it is trying to reproduce and apply typical development. I wouldn't feel positive about a schedule like this that was cover ya know?I know one change that has happened was this.... I heard a mom talking to Dr. Gustein ahead of my in line she said the thing that made her give up on RDI was her son could not get to step 3 without completing go 2 he couldn't so they kind of fizzled out. Gutstein said. "Yes that was bad we don't do that anymore". So it sounds like UNlike nt development there was a certain order of steps and stages RDI once adhered to and no longer does. Vince himself so far has hopped over a step cause he was already doing another future go then we go back to the one he hopped over. There's no stagnating waiting to 'pass' if he doesn't 'get' something. You set the contend low enough for him to succeed but not feel like patronized by when he gets competent at what ever that objective is you collide with it up slightly on and on. About Coley's inflexible thinking... definitely get to bring home the bacon on that FIRST ON YOURSELF for a few days. sight your own inflexible thinking with RDI. CREATE other ways of thinking in your own mind... like you did when the cushions of the fort were not strong enough and I said it was ok cause it was not about turning out an architecturally sound assemble. You totally got that right away because you already undergo flexible thinking - you just need a nudge not development in that area. force force. So when you can DO flexible thinking on an ongoing basis he ordain DO flexible thinking. It should become automatic for you quickly with just a little practice. Example my beers dropped out of the hatchback measure week after shopping - looking at the shattered glass and beer everywhere my first thought was "at least I got 4 left that's more than half". measure year. I would undergo hurt up cussing God out in my continue for not even letting me undergo that much for ruining any little fun I could enjoy every chance He got. I'm not change surface kidding this whole flexible thinking thing is so freeing liberating (and embarrassing) to realize how totally inflexible most adults are and how READY our asd kids are to be more flexible. Here my son will be 12 in two months and I express to you every new objective he just takes to desire a duck in water - HE was always ready just needed the guidance. You'd evaluate I'm grieve for all the time lost etc... I'm like so into the here and now. I don't undergo measure for that. I'm just so happy we're finally on our way desire some family living a subhuman life in North Korea that finally got our visas and passports. Often too flexible thinking happens naturally as a result of Ongoing Appraisal what is and isn't important on a moment to moment basis in a situation - with my broken beer the furnish didn't pop up and cut Vincent's or my legs after that nothing seemed worth fussing over - I was glad I still had 4 left. I don't change surface consume alcohol (my beer is 'come' beer) so at least I had 4 to apply. Then my head was desire. "if I had three left that would at least be half. I have.
