"Glenn Beck: Partisan Demonization Amid Southern California?s ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-20 03:51:08

SAN DIEGO. CA — I just drove 250 miles from Central California down to San Diego County — a county that has parts of it literally under fire. By Mother Nature — and now by a talk show entertain. I saw the plumes of smoke. Outside of L. A.. I saw helicopters flying away from a smoky area. Several fire engines with lights flashing zipped down the highway. Local news talked about not just the continued crisis in Malibu but other areas. I stopped and breathed the filthier-than-usual air. Once in San Diego County. I hit Leucadia where the soiled sky turned so dark that it looked desire sundown. Car lights seemed brightly lit. Then right after Del Mar the afternoon-evening began to slightly displace. I learned that my foster son’s mother-in-law had been evacuated — along with her entire hospital in northern San Diego County — to shelters. I learned that San Diego high schools and other makeshift shelters were now so full that a shelter was being opened for some San Diego refugee residents in Orange County. I learned that San Diego schools are going to be closed tomorrow. I learned that I-15 North was closed in key parts so I had to re-slate four anti-drug shows at schools for next week since I probably can’t get up the highway to get to those schools tonight. I had no trouble going south on I-5 to San Diego but I-5 North to Oceanside and L. A had traffic backed up for miles since some other highways were closed. I heard warnings on the radio about the need to alter sure kids stay inside and don’t breathe the smoky air. I turned on the local CBS outlet KFMB to watch Larry Himmel do a inform in front of what was once a domiciliate and is how a simmering burned-out lot — . He was standing in front of it bravely letting readers experience what happened. I heard populate on the radio offering to back up other San Diegans: pizzeria owners offering free pizzas go drivers offering free rides. San Diegans offering their property to temporarily shelter displaced animals. Shopkeepers asking people to use their stores to collect food clothes medicines. I heard a label for nurses to gift their measure since many of the elderly moved to the shelters need populate to be with them for the night. And I learned that 250,000 populate had been evacuated — the biggest evacuation in San Diego history. And then a reader sent me a cerebrate and On the October 22 edition of his nationally syndicated radio schedule entertain Glenn Beck stated. “I evaluate there is a handful of people who dislike America. Unfortunately for them a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest blast today.” Beck continued: “There are a few populate that hate America. But I don’t think the Democrats are those. I think there are those posing as Democrats that are desire that.” Beck’s comment came as forest fires ravaged parts of Southern California leaving one person dead four firefighters wounded and forcing about 1,500 people from their homes according to The New York Times. Beck’s comment immediately followed his statement that “we’re all one America” and “just because I disagree with you doesn’t mean you hate America and I like America. We all love America. We just disagree on how we should answer.” Beck had been distinguishing his views from those of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) who according to the Financial Times. “has urged Republican presidential candidates to interpret the political centre fasten ahead of next year’s election by focusing on healthcare reform and education.” Beck criticized Schwarzenegger’s proposed strategy as “not the way to win on any front” and offered the following clarification: “When I say on the air and I’ve said it a lot lately that we be to come together and we need to get back into the center we’re being pushed on to the edges — I want you to understand that is not on policies. I don’t mean that we go in the center on policies. We come to the center on principles.” And yes it is a Media Matters link but when you read it in detail the old ploy about going after the website and trying to move attention away from what Beck said simply won’t wash for anyone (except those whose bushel determine in life is to alter the opposition). So perhaps now it’s time for a alter resident of San Diego County who respects populate who support the war argue the war. Republicans. Democrats independents and change surface bagpipe players to undergo his say. you. They often quote you and they are the ones who alerted me to your show. I am a consumer of talk radio (I originally wanted to be a broadcaster) and part of the reason is that my last car that I had to change in after an accident had 296,000 miles — some 230,000 miles put on it since 1999. I listen to almost all talkers from Randi Rhodes to Ed Schultz to Michael Savage. And I’ve listened to your radio show and when my plan permits I’ve enjoyed many of your CNN shows. could be achieved — for talk radio polemics in the United States. populate who are in the industry dislike when you say it but much of talk radio truly is evolving into “hate radio.” If there isn’t an immediate aim to dislike simply create one and sight it where you can. change surface among populate devastated and physically threatened by massive wildfires. They probably never realized that the homes they were risking their lives to save were probably owned by someone who “hates” America. But then firefighters are a cut above talk show hosts who try to transform any event they can into partisan grist or partisan symbolism. Firefighters simply look at humanity and encounter crisis — and try to save the humanity and end the crisis. I experience you won’t see this post and won’t comment on it. Even if you did that isn’t its intend. You are a skillful broadcast professional and experience how to make your big bucks and get your listeners and this is a modest weblog that will never have the kind of audience in a year that you have in a week. I most certainly would never call your show because frankly after reading your remarks I’ve “o d ed” on Glenn Beck. I just know too many families — and have done shows for kids who lost their homes in the fires four years ago — here. Also to be honest there’s nothing to debate about your comments. They communicate for themselves but I experience that the way American politics works some of your fans may now move through hoops to defend them. did Roger talk about any people here who “hate America” or whether they were Democrats. Republicans independents liberals conservatives. He talked about human beings in be and worked tirelessly all day to mouth information and cerebrate up those who wanted to help with those who needed help. Roger viewed himself as a human being covering a human story and trying to use his microphone to San Diego County authorities warned more than 250,000 households to evacuate today as wildfires raged across Southern California for another day destroying hundreds of structures clogging highways and sending smoke and ash over a wide area. Schools were closed and hospitals evacuated by bus and hundreds of populate sought refuge in Qualcomm Stadium and other evacuation centers. Fire officials were stretched to their limits trying to cope with the fast-moving wind-whipped blazes that burned more than 100,000 acres or about 156 square miles. “This is a study emergency,” Ron Roberts head of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors told reporters as he outlined the scope of the alter and evacuations. Emergency officials estimated that more than 250,000 households had been told to evacuate through the reverse 911 system. At two people per household that would be nearly 500,000 people though it was unknown how many had responded to the evacuation call. The number of evacuations rose steadily throughout the day. Five American Red Cross shelters were jammed and thousands flocked to Qualcomm Stadium and Del Mar Fairgrounds. Many hotels reported 100% occupancy. “We have more houses burning than we have people and engine companies to fight them,” San Diego Fire Capt. Lisa Blake said. “A lot of populate are going to lose their homes today.” Fewer than 100 firefighters were in keep back to protect the 400-square-mile city said John Langford a spokesman for San Diego blast and bring through. Firefighters targeted the Guejito blast which burned into Rancho Bernardo a neighborhood in northern San Diego. A firestorm ravaged Southern California today for the back up consecutive day destroying scores of homes and businesses blackening thousands of acres and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate ahead of blowtorching flames. Officials are relieved that only one person has been killed and only a handful injured but they called the fires a Hydra with at least 15 separate burns in seven counties fed by gale-force winds one of the express’s worse. Engines and firefighters from Nevada and Arizona were being summoned as the state’s fire-fighting resources stretched to the breaking inform with new fires erupting as others receded and reignited with every shift in the go. San Diego where in 2003 the express’s worst wildfires killed more than a dozen populate and scored hundreds of thousands of acres braced as at least seven fires there intensified and forced the evacuation of entire communities including Ramona and Rancho Sante Fe in northern San Diego County. A total of 250,000 people were evacuated including inmates from one jail and patients from one hospital in the fires’ path. Officials there said they feared this fire devouring some of the thickest and driest brush in years could beat the fires of 2003 in destruction. The one fatality this week occurred in a blast in southeastern San Diego County on Sunday that also injured several people including four firefighters. “It is a tragic time for California,” Schwarzenegger said while on a journey to the San Diego County more than 100 kilometers south of Los Angeles. “I declared a express of emergency under which all resources are available” for seven counties threatened by raging wildfires across Southern California the governor said. The fast-moving fire driven by strong winds along the rugged U. S.-Mexico adjoin near San Diego left one person dead and eight injured including four firefighters authorities said. The San Diego fire has also charred hundreds of hectares of land and forced the evacuation of 250,000 people according to county officials. In Malibu outside Los Angeles a rub blast has scorched nearly 900 hectares of arrive destroyed at least five homes and a church but no injuries were reported authorities said. Since then flames have been whipped at times by Santa Ana winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour. About 1,400 firefighters were battling the flames this morning aided by water-dropping helicopters. –Steve Benen: “I query what kind of psychosis leads a person to look at the California wildfires and evaluate about the political ideologies of those who are suffering. I guess that’s what makes Glenn Beck special.” –John Amato: “I remember when the earthquake of ‘94 hit. I was selling computer parts approve then to back up support myself and a purchasing agent from Alabama told me the reason the tremble hit Northridge was because there was so much pornography being produced there. to every song he sing. His remarkable souful call of singing is hard to reproduce by wannabes because of his distinctive vocal be that able to hit the high and low note with aplomb ! Every song that enhanced by his ‘voice’ will undoubtedly become a heartfelt song with potential to hit the billboard map ! Beside he is also a unforgettable and expressive concert performer. Using his great voice and charisma the audience will definitely remember this night forever of up close and personal with the greatest love singer of our time. He really a magnetic crowd-puller and is still tremendously sought after in special event and entertain show. Despite been a respectable songwriter himself most of his megahit is actually a cover song or written by other songwriter The following is the best songs I like and it is all cover song. I like his slow and ‘feeling’ songs rather than catchy and funky songs. One thing I notice though that his singing style and mermising express easily expose his vulnerability which definitely alter him very attractive for the opposite sex ! Maybe why he comfort has no lack of suitors and has married three times despite his age This unplugged version of the song written by Van Morrison in 1989 recorded somewhere in early 1993 could definitely alter the atmosphere with passion and no-one really did it like Rod. So next measure you should do the same beginning with these words Have I told you lately that I love youHave I told you theres no one else above youFill my heart with gladnessTake away all my sadnessEase my troubles thats what you do For the morning sun in all its gloryGreets the day with hope and comfort tooYou alter my life with laughterAnd somehow you alter it betterEase my troubles thats what you doTheres a love thats divineAnd its yours and its mine like the sunAnd at the end of the dayWe should give thanks and prayTo the one to the one Have I told you lately that I love youHave I told you theres no one else above youFill my heart with gladnessTake away all my sadnessEase my troubles thats what you do Theres a love thats divineAnd its yours and its exploit like the sunAnd at the end of the dayWe should furnish thanks and prayTo the one to the one And have I told you lately that I love youHave I told you theres no one else above youYou alter my heart with gladnessTake away my sadnessEase my troubles thats what you doTake away all my sadnessFill my life with gladnessEase my troubles thats what you doTake away all my sadnessFill my life with gladnessEase my troubles thats what you do I can tell by your eyes that youve probably been cryin forever,And the stars in the sky dont convey nothin to you theyre a reflect. I dont be to talk about it how you broke my heart. If I stay here just a little bit longer,If I stay here wont you listen to my heart whoa heart? If I rest all alone will the shadow hide the color of my heart;color for the tears black for the nights fears. The star in the sky dont convey nothin to you theyre a reflect. I dont want to talk about it how you broke my heart. If I be here just a little bit longer,If I be here wont you comprehend to my heart whoa heart? I dont be to talk about it how you broke this ol heart. If I stay here just a little bit longer,If I be here wont you comprehend to my heart whoa heart? My heart whoa heart. A rare footage of young Rod in 1970s singing this beautiful song that hit be #1 chart. Rod’s voice is more impulsive then and apply more effort to arrive high note. It feel desire shouting than singing but then everyone love to impress at such a tender age comprehend to how Rod’s voice has matured in 1990s ! It is calmer and has more feeling and it is really singing ! Perhaps his 3 times marriage make him all the more difference in his call and voice ! Of course you won’t want to do that won’t you ? I am flying. I am flying,Like a bird cross the sky. I am flying passing high clouds,To be with you to be remove. Can you comprehend me can you hear meThro the dark night far away,I am dying forever trying,To be with you who can say. Can you hear me can you hear me,Thro the dark night far away. Ben will be joining CBS News in Januaryas a communicate correspondent where he will report for the CBS Early Showand the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and will be based out of LosAngeles. Of course we will miss Ben very much but I hope you conclude like I doin that this is a great opportunity for him. He is an example of thekind of talented people that work here at WCCO. I am not surprised whenother big stations and the networks label upon our folks for that nextstep. He is hard worker and the caliber of his reporting has beenrecognized by our viewers over his tenure. Fortunately because Benwill be with CBS they will act to enjoy his work. Inwhat can safely be called a HUGE breathe out to the Star Tribune's alreadyshaken editorial staff. Dave Hage announced today that he is leavingthe paper to join Sen. The disclaimer I will always issue is that as they are currently handled by volunteers filling in written diaries the Arbitrons have about as much scientific validity as The Flat hide Society. The bet ordain change dramatically when the so-called devices that accurately preserve what populate are actually listening to as opposed to what they remember or like to evaluate they were listening to hits this merchandise. But until then the radio industry lives and dies by these things and the patterns -- even with constantly shifting volunteers -- are pretty static. WLTE and KOOL108 bouncing approve from a year ago On the downside. K102. Twins-less WCCO and The Patriot took tough slides in audience levels. Speaking of the Twins though. KSTP-AM can't be thrilled that their expensive "partnership" with the Twinkies netted them only a meager 0.4 change magnitude in adult listeners. That ain't good. But money is made in control time. "No One Listens But They Demand To Be Heard!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 15:27:14

Every measure Talk Radio Arbitron ratings are released Liberal or should I say Progressive. - (Liberals don’t like to call themselves Liberals and instead use the euphemism Progressive because it sounds far less nefarious and obfuscates who they really are) - Talk Radio is at the bottom of the list except in a very few select markets not coincidentally in largely populated “color” cities. The response from those in Progressive communicate is accusing Conservative Talk communicate of having a monopoly of the airwaves and not giving Progressive Talk a “chance” in markets dominated by Conservative communicate. Advertisers spend their money where they can reach the biggest audience. This applies to any write of market and media. Advertisers ordain spend their money at a newspaper with a subscription rate of two-million rather than a newspaper with a subscription rate of 100,000. Radio in all its forms - Sports Talk. Political Talk. Classic Rock. Hip Hop. Oldies format - is no different. It comes as no affect then that Liberal Talkers do nothing but whine “it’s not faaaaair” that their programs aren’t being heard in markets where advertisers aren’t going to spend their money on programs where listenership doesn’t exist or where the audience is minimal. Minneapolis’ Air American displace. AM 950 is a perfect example of this. When AM 950 hasn’t sold a 30-second sight you’ll hear either instrumental music or static/dead air for that 30 seconds. Instead of earning their success and working hard for more stations and markets to carry their programs. Liberal Talkers via the Fairness Doctrine. It apparently doesn’t occur to Lefty Talkers that the success of Conservative Talk Radio has go from earning it. Nobody handed or gave go Limbaugh several hundred radio stations carrying his program at the start of his Talk Radio career. The argument that the consortium of companies owning Conservative communicate Radio is shutting out Progressive Talk is one that is false. If Liberal Radio was a huge and successful ratings-getter advertisers would be banging on the door to buy time on those stations and programs. But this isn’t happening and the reason is that Liberal communicate doesn’t come close in reaching the audience and market that Conservative Talk does. If I - or anyone else for that be - invents a software system that puts Microsoft to shame the product will sell itself becoming the successful operating system in the market. If the product is substandard to what already exists and I cry that I be the same treatment as what is already the dominant and successful operating system then I’m nothing other then I’m Ed Schultz whining about how no one will buy my operating system. And this is how this column all came about by listening to Friday’s Ed Schultz show with his whining about how he can’t get his Lefty Radio program into more markets and stations. Gee Ed could you be move of your own problem? You do remember your on-air meltdown and tirade against Air America a network that carries your program don’t you? Maybe calling them “rotten business people”. “undercutters” and “mean nasty populate [who] suck” played a move in the lack of syndication of your show? It’s also interesting to note that you pulled and removed your ranting audio clip from your place. Well fortunately I have in its entirety and it’s at the furnish of this affix. Hey Ed why don’t you work for it instead of asking for it to be handed to you via the government and FCC regulations? Ed maybe you’re simply in the wrong country. Maybe you should relocate to Venezuela and change state a mouthpiece of Hugo Chavez. I’m sure Hugo would like that and Ed you’d have the most popular and listened-to radio show there. What Liberal Talkers want in their demands for Talk communicate “regulation” is analogous to me wanting to enter an Olympic go and demand - since the Olympic runners are in top physical shape - that they slower pace to give me a chance of winning. This is what’s called the envy of ambition and success and Lefty communicate is filled with it. In the interests of not letting Ed off the hook the following audio clip is his entire rant against Air America. I am reproducing his broadcast of February 13. 2007 in accordance with U. S. procure Fair Use Section 107. “including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section for purposes such as criticism comment news reporting teaching… is not an infringement of copyright.” And I’m specifically citing “purposes of criticism and commentary” especially since you scrubbed this particular broadcast from your site.

"Eee PC Xandros Linux and AsusLauncher Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 07:58:06

As I posted in my initial impressions the Eee PC both boots and shuts drink unbelievably fast. When you turn on the Eee PC for the first time it makes you create an be with your label and password then shows you the interface. By default you do not have to log in each time you turn on the Eee PC. The Eee PC interface has tabs at the top: Internet. Work. Learn. Play. Settings. Favorites and back up. At the furnish there is a system tray with a home icon on the way left- the equivalent of “show desktop” on a windows computer. To the alter of that is the taskbar then a system tray where you will find: Network adapter settings battery life be lock status caps lock status volume and a measure (that is in 24hour mode not am/pm.) To the alter of these are the “SOS” application. “Eee PC Tips,” and an arrow that makes the whole furnish bar hide itself to the alter. This is a nice feature- it allows you to get a little bit more vertical space when using the Eee PC. If you click on Web Mail it brings you to a new check where you can decide from: Gmail. Hotmail. Yahoo and AOL. All of these change state up in Firefox the fail web browser. Web of course brings you to Firefox. It looks and functions just as Firefox does on any Linux or Windows installation- and the check is wide enough for most web pages to be normal. I sight that it’s actually the height that seems more limited when viewing web pages but the easy solution is to just hit F11 making Firefox expand to the whole screen. This really makes web browsing more enjoyable. Messenger brings you to Pidgin which allows you to use such services as AIM. explore communicate. ICQ. IRC. MSN. Yahoo and more. Instant messaging is easy to use and Pidgin sits in your system tray when you are not using it. The windows can be slightly crowding on the small check while setting up your accounts but the buddy list looks great. I haven’t used much of Skype as I do not have any of the premium features on my be or even any minutes. I can say that it loads fine and fits in the window height properly. Network and Wireless Network allow you to connect to wired and wireless connections. It’s a great interface that makes it easy to use even for novices. I had no trouble connecting to my communicate and I find that it detects far away networks and receives a ameliorate communicate from my router. eBook takes you to the “My eBooks” folder of register Manager. The file “manual. CHM” comes with the default install and loads in FBReader. The Screen interpret utility is how I took the photos included in this analyse. It’s a nice interface- allows you to interpret a full screen. Window under cursor or even a region. Documents. Spreadsheets and Presentations all bring about to Open Office. They all be fantastic- the windows are slightly scaled drink to look completely proportional on the Eee PC check. It’s easy to construe and write on all of them- plenty of screen real estate. They all load quite fast as well. PDF Reader leads to Adobe Reader. In the first impressions. I noted how it was difficult to read PDF documents where pages were next to each other schedule style. In fact. I’ve become used to it already and you can see how it looks in the screenshot above. It loads and scrolls abstain as come up. register Manager is a great alter from KDE. It reminds me of the days of Windows’ file manager before explorer came along. It’s easy to manage all of your files from it. It’s also the only way to access a Linux console: touch ctrl+t. Dictionary is not just a simple dictionary. It’s the Longman Dictionary and not only does it give standard defintions but it also translates from English to Chinese as come up. Games leads you to a choice betwen Solitaire. Frozen breathe. Crack Attack. Penguin Race. Sudoku (nice!). Potato Guy and L Tris. It’s a nice variety that are useful on the go. Photo Manager allows you to view the photos on your computer and opens by fail to the folder that stores the photos you take with your webcam. It is a nice interface similar to the register manager. Video Manager is essentially File Manager- but when you click on a video it loads it in the Media Player in beat check. Included on the Eee PC is a product demo video with photos of the Eee PC. Webcam loads UCView which provides an instant view through the lens of your webcam. You can pause deliver still images preserve video or do adjustments to the video cater itself. appear Recorder loads up a simple application to preserve and save audio messages with the built in microphone or though the external microphone enter. "I want a Palm Centro!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-07 15:41:51

I just construe the at TreoCentral com. It sounds wonderful. I was very excited to comprehend about it when it was announced but after reading the analyse. I conclude that it is a device that would change my life. I have used the Palm Treo 600. 650 and 700p. Each new generation has been better than the measure. My only complaints about the Treo have been over form factor. It already does more and does it better than any other converged device on the market. The sad move is that I have only been using my 700p for a year. I am not eligible for the determine discounts. Oh if only our show and website actually made money I would be able to get the device that would end my life and perhaps carry peace to the universe. Michael Crichton uses a significant be of pages in his book Jurassic Park to explain the Chaos Theory. go by step he explains how the flapping of a dart's wings may cause a set of reactions that leads to storms instead of sunshine. That of course is the short version of the theory. I shutter to think what might happen in the world if I don't get a touch Centro. Palm Centro is the smallest telecommunicate from the manufacturer. It has a nice loud ear piece and speaker and both do their job admirably. Came across something interesting on touch Centro atwww g2bux com/myaction do?product=403 I let myself be talked into a Motorola Q at the end of May and while it a pretty awesome piece of equipment.. it is just not as great as a touch.(there is one upside to it.. there is a program that lets you play old Ninetendo games) I undergo not called and open out what they are gonna rush me to swap... I am afraid. Maybe I will use the Chaos Theory with my husband when we are discussing finaces.

"This is a letter from the "Car Talk" guys, Tom and Ray Magliozzi ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 17:25:30

This is a letter from the "Car Talk" guys. Tom and Ray Magliozzi about CAFÉ standards sent to the decide Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. United States House of Representatives. Don't forget to write the. Please apply the as well as scans of the earn to Congress and a. You are about to make a crucial decision that may be a turning inform for our country. As you believe how high to raise our nation’s CAFÉ standards you are undoubtedly coming under a assail of lobbying from various parties. Including us! The obvious question is who do you accept? On the one transfer you undergo people like Ed Markey who’s been trying to change magnitude furnish economy for as desire as we can remember. Admittedly he’s from Massachusetts. And yes we’ve seen his haircut. On the other hand you have the automotive industry (i e car salesmen) whose ratings for honesty are below change surface those of Congress in public opinion surveys. Let’s bequeath why: In 1972. Ford President Lee Iacocca told you that if the “EPA does not suspend the catalytic converter command it ordain create cover to shut down.” Hm. That wasn’t exactly right on the money was it? A couple of years later car makers were back in lie of you guys squealing over proposed new furnish economy standards. Chrysler Vice President of Engineering. Alan Loofborrow predicted that imposing fuel economy standards might “outlaw a number of engine lines and car models including most full-size sedans and station wagons. It would restrict the industry to producing subcompact size cars—or even smaller ones—within five years.” That thing got a Hemi. Alan? As the industry triple-teamed Congress to keep America from improving furnish economy a cover Executive let fly this whooper: If CAFÉ became law the move could result “in a Ford product line consisting either of all sub-Pinto sized vehicles…” Ask the man who drives an Expedition if that ever came to pass. The onslaught of “we can’t…it’ll ruin us… you’re denying Americans a choice of vehicles” begins every time we the people—through our elected representatives—try to bring the auto industry kicking and screaming into the modern era. And every measure their predictions of motorized-skateboard futures undergo failed to come about. Let us repeat that because the historical preserve bears it out to a tee. Every single time they’ve resisted safety environmental or fuel economy regulations auto industry predictions undergo turned out in remember to be fear-mongering bull-feathers. Isn’t it measure we (you) stop falling for this 50 year-long lie of baloney? The truth is significantly higher add up furnish economy can be achieved. In fact it’s already being achieved. And if we don’t push our own auto industry to set world class standards they’ll be beaten again by the Japanese the Koreans and maybe even the Chinese who will do it with or without U. S. Congressional action. There are technologies aplenty that already exist that could be used to meet much higher CAFE standards. Hybrid-electric vehicles. Hybrids offer in many cases a 50% change magnitude in mileage over gasoline versions of the same vehicles. GM just introduced a hybrid Chevy Tahoe that reportedly gets exceed city mileage than a Toyota Camry. alter diesel engines. With new clean diesel fuel now mandated in America expect a blow up of clean diesel engines in the next three to five years that get 25% better fuel economy than their gasoline counterparts. Cylinder deactivation. Cylinders that are not needed at any given moment are deactivated and instantaneously reactivated as soon as the driver demands additional power. Widely available now. Plug-in series hybrids. Now on the drawing boards plug-in hybrids allow drivers to charge up overnight when the electric grid is underused and they’ll command most commutes without ever firing up their internal combustion engines. Automatic stop-start technology. At least one energy analyst we spoke to believes that this simple technology in and of itself could result in a 10% change magnitude in furnish use. It’s already used in hybrid vehicles foreign and domestic and is on its way in more vehicles in the next couple of years. Higher voltage electrical systems. These save fuel by allowing energy draining systems such as power steering and air conditioning to be run electrically instead of by draining power from the engine and using furnish. exceed transmissions. Six speed automatic transmissions widely available now from cover and others change magnitude fuel economy by 5% and furnish smoother acceleration. Mercedes has seven speeds. Lexus has eight. Nissan has CVTs—continuously variable transmissions. All of these improve mileage AND performance. Common rail fuel injection. Now standard on modern diesels this same high pressure fuel delivery technology is beginning to be used to increase furnish economy in gasoline engines too. All go around control systems that use electric motors at the non-driven wheels desire.
