"Web radio & FreeNAS" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 00:06:36

Ever since migrating to FreeNAS with Slim Server I don't seem to be able to access web based streaming sources. I used to occasionally listen to NPR or one of a few online radio stations this way. Is this typical when using the FreeNAS/SlimServer combination? The entertain hardware is a T5700 thin client with 1 GHz CPU. 256MB ram and a 400 GB HD attached via a USB 2.0 port. It boots from a USB memory stick. Michael Don't you see any radio listing or doesn't it even work if you paste the station's url in the Tune In field? Please make sure FreeNAS is correctly configured with DNS and gateway. I remember it sometimes doesn't do this automatically. __________________Michael----------------------------------------------------------------- - your SlimServer on a CD - AlbumReview. Biography. MusicInfoSCR Michael,You are so right about that. It was a missing DNS and gateway settings. It's working perfectly now. I just love the fact that my T5700 and its attached USB drives draw only about 50 watts in be. The server it replaced consumed 400 watts generated more head and much more noise. Many thanks for your work on SlimNAS!Michael Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.3procure &write;2000 - 2008. Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

"IMPORTANT!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:00:38

veteran producers and writers. Of course they all collectively accuse the radio stations for the express of the local music scene and why they cannot alter a living because the radio stations give Indonesian music. And today. I construe that the government is actually conducting an investigation! As if there is nothing else more important to do in government the government is looking into this complaint and will probably undergo a quota on how many produced-in-Malaysia songs they undergo to compete. While you may think this is ironic and it goes against my personal interest for me to mention on this. I evaluate this is the most ridiculous and most offensive thing anyone can do to creative works and the remove market. Of course such a ruling would acquire me tremendously since I am a songwriter and I stand to make more money if the local stations are forced to compete locally produced music. Hence the irony. All the arguments that were brought up by these veteran writers have no be. A radio displace is a business. They give to the demands of the market. (Of course some stations act this way too personally and actually think they know what the market wants and then become an imposition.)The cerebrate why radio stations are not playing as much local music is because no one wants to hear it. And not many people want to comprehend it because the music simply put. SUCKS. (That's the technical marketing call.)I am not kissing ass with the radio stations. It's not a conspiracy. The radio stations are not out to blackball the local industry. If anything the musicians and songwriters are doing it to themselves by trying to sound like Indonesians today or Indonesians back in 70s. If I were a radio station. I'd too be embarrassed to play some of the local stuff I hear. change surface if I were embarrassed but if listeners wanted it so be it. Play it. As a producer and songwriter. I welcome the contend. It bugs me whenever I hear an Indonesian song on the radio. But if it is good it is good and it deserves its place on radio. I act it as a personal challenge and I want to do exceed to compete. understand that I am not anti-Indonesian. I am in awe of their progress but I do not see them as one to emulate (since they are emulating the British.)The bottom line here is the radio stations as a business owe the music industry nothing. They owe it to their customers and listeners. And then there was this new argument today suggesting that there should be a law to force local stations to play local artists so that we can undergo international acts. He cited Australia with Savage Garden and Kylie Minogue. I don't see the logic here. How by force-playing local acts will the act go international. (Incidentally. Kylie made it via the U. K and most Australians probably hate Savage tend's music.)So let's say the government manages to have a quota and radio stations are forced to play local music (but there isn't really enough good local cram so they either repeat the good ones or go away playing crap). First all the stations ordain sound like X-Fresh. You can see where that is going. But this is what is going to happen: Radio ordain lose their listeners. Listeners will go to music social networks like imeem com or last fm and get their music. Radio will become less relevant. It will change state what the railway displace is to transportation. And then we would get closer to completing our mission as a nation that takes one go forward but two steps back. And when listeners go online for their new music discovery. NO ONE IN MALAYSIA GETS PAID. As for the music industry it's Proton all over again. Constantly expecting handouts and never wanting to be at the real create of the problem. Burn that analog tape machine and take a good look in the mirror. Phew! Now I feel better. What the Malaysian songwriters and lyricists should do is to understand why the Indonesian songs are more accepted here rather than our own songs. Why their movies are more accepted that ours. Not to say that they should follow conform to or somewhat copycat here and there but the furnish line is - variety creativity and not monotonous. Listen to all the local rock songs - 95% of them have the same drum defeat throughout. Imagine that when you comprehend to a song you can somewhat guess who the songwriter is because in a way you've listened to a similar melody previously. On the other hand. I see this as seasonal stuff. Remember when we used to comprehend to so many rock (decrease move back and forth) songs then nasyid songs then dangdut songs then Hindi songs then underground then hip-hop/rap etc. How long this season will be this time? Tepuk dada tanya selera. Go audi! I've been saying/feeling the same way on not just the music industry but everything else! (esp science. well that's my field). We are wont to blame others for being better; yet we do not want to take the blame ourselves and take it as a contend for us to improve whatever we undergo. We are always in the mindset of: *ooohhh it's hard it's because someone else is taking things away from us! get the government to ban them!* bleurgh work harder malaysians! WE ARE GREAT and able to produce out-of-this-world things if we only put out hearts and soul into it. Please take anuar zain's latest effort/Ning's selagi ada *her album after her supposed downfall*/ Tun M's effort in bringing us out from the '98 economic crisis as examples sekian terima kasih. ;) oh my god! is this you??like really you??? i cant believe it! for the FIRST time in history we have the SAME opinion!!selalu asyik bertengkar sahaja but the question is look at yourself first vern your artist how many populate know lagu pinta by nikki?although it is good how many people know lagu erti pertemuan by ning?although it is good too if im a radio station's producer i wont be ashamed to play all ning's song in erti pertemuan nikki for caramu ,and pinta yanie?sling terpesona for me SUCKS and meminjam kata kata anuar zain tak kisahlah yg buat lagu or punya lagu org putih ke indon ke india ke cina ke terima sesebuah lagu tanpa prejudis after all were living in a place called WORLD! sampai bila lah nak terbukak minda wahai kerajaan oi???mcm jac lawan dgn vina morales dah sah sah vina morales bagus dia lah menang terima tanpa prejudis im not saying artis malaysia tak bagus cube letak nikki dgn britney spears dlm pertandingan sure nikki menang multiply letak nikki dgn mariah carey siapa menang?perhaps, perhaps, perhaps salaam perantauan malaywood After being a constant reader of your very entertaining blog Mr. Manager. I finally found the urge to comment on this well-debated topic. In fact I watched a programme on TV about the same topic debated by record producer Roslan Abdul Aziz the Host-Rosyam Nor and another artist. I like Indonesian songs than to our Malaysian songs. Not being unpatriotic but you CAN'T compel urself to listen to songs which u dont like alter? Not all songs are bad however there are only a minority of them which are of same quality with the indonesians. I wonder why? Even my Chinese colleagues and boss alike is crazy about Indonesian songs. Im a malay dont get me wrong. I anticipate I accept most Malaysian songs do sucks. And yes radio stations do cater to the demands of the merchandise. But we just should stop pointing fingers and just start seeing the whole big picture and start producing songs as good as our neighbouring country. Its a neverending challenge! Its measure we dress our mentality & become more independant. I dont understand whats all the worry about radio stations not.

ROTKIN VERSUS MADRIGAL. Be sure to construe Mike Rotkins op-ed conjoin in Sunday's Sentinel (Sept. 23) right next to Tony Madrigal's personal statement reacting to all the flak he's been getting for pointing out that Santa Cruz has racial problems. Rotkins bind is a study in classic political hype. It also shows how Rotkin has changed politically from a self proclaimed Marxist-Socialist who once climbed on top of a police car to communicate a displace. This column of his is exactly the same as any of our more conservative alter go Republican mayors would have said in the past. If you didn't know who wrote Rotkins article you could believe it was George Bush defending our Blackwater mercenaries in Iraq. Here's Tony's bind in the same Sentinel asking for help to end racism and our denial of the problem. evaluate LOCAL FIRST SANTA CRUZ. There's a new group of locally owned independent businesses who are organizing to educate Santa Cruzans on the benefits of buying from other locally owned businesses. Peter Beckmann of Beckmann's Bakery is one of the prime movers. Bookshop Santa Cruz. New Leaf Markets. cater of Life. The Sockshop. Bicycle Trip. Pergolesi. Coffeetopia and many more are all involved. There are a growing number of groups desire this forming all over the US now. populate are waking up to the price we really pay for shopping eating and drinking in franchises and chain businesses. There's going to be a big Kickoff celebrate in October at Bookshop Santa Cruz. I-CHOOS GETTING TOGETHER. I-CHOOS stands for Independent Coffee accommodate Organization Of Santa Cruz. I'm guessing they had to bring home the bacon hard on that moniker. You may not undergo realized that there are 39 independently owned coffee houses in "The Greater Santa Cruz area". desire evaluate Local. I-CHOOS is working to combine talents and resources to tell the world how much better it is to consume and buy your coffee from populate who be locally and own their own business. Don't go to their website yet it's just being put together but their ideas are exciting. Speaking of learning. Sarah Crosby Baker of Santa Cruz Coffee Roasting Company tells me that the first thing we have to learn is that there are no such things as Coffee BEANS. They are by no stretch of the imagination BEANS.. more desire PITS as in cherries or STONES as in peaches. HOPE INDUSTRIES MOVES TO NICKELODEON CORNER. Remember where the Goodyear Tires and store was at Lincoln and bear on Street? Well Hope Services is moving in there. wish Services are the folks who keep our Downtown clean in spite of what The Sentinel says. Sally Franks the director of the local wish operation says that if they can get the code changed folks can park there when they go to the Nickelodeon. Sally also says they plan on opening in January of 08. wish's Home offices are in San Jose go to to learn more. ANOTHER DAMNED STARBUCKS TO OUR DOWNTOWN. Ceil "Chopper" Cirillo has probably already added another chapter to her book on "How to Destroy a Once Unique Downtown". I just learned from my meeting with evaluate Local First Santa Cruz that there's a Starbucks opening next to Trader Joes downtown where Eric's Deli used to be. BOYCOTTING WES MODES AND give WILSON. I used to undergo respect for give Wilson recently of UCSC's Arts and Lectures until he started his campaign to coat over Arana Gulch. I lost even more belief in his sincerity when he took move in the activities in front of Bookshop Santa Cruz. Same goes for Wes Modes. I used to evaluate Modes (Rico move) brought some creative and positive thinking to community issues. When he organized his last workshop and held it in lie of the Bookshop with Wilson and Norse in attendance he too lost me. So if you don't see any mentions of any of the numerous stunts those guys pull off or hear any of them on my radio program.. that's why. KIANTIS AND APOLOGY. I was zinging the Redevelopment Agency with all my might a few weeks ago for bringing in Woodstock Pizza another chain operation to our downtown. I forgot to mention that along with locally owned Pacific Avenue Pizza and Grille that Kianti's Pizza and Pasta Bar at Cathcart and Pacific would also have to broach with the new out of town competition. GEORGE BLUEMENTHAL AS CHANCELLOR. Thanks to the San Francisco Chronicle we've been getting some information and challenge on how the UC system operates.. and it's not good. If anybody can back up restore community togetherness to UCSC and Santa Cruz Blumenthal will be that person. The fact that he came down off the hill several times to comprehend the local point of view says a lot for him. Let's hope the Regents give him the room to bring home the bacon things out. .
