I recently purchased some low end Sony speakers of Ebay (Model # SS-MB215) with the intent of modifying them.. They sound utterly horrible but I tell. I got the crossover mod directions from audioreview com but am having affect comprehending the directions as follows..
You should now see the existing capacitors hanging on the approve of each speaker at this point. We will NOT be removing any of this just adding another capacitor ACROSS these. You be 4 non-polarized electroytic capacitors from Radio Shack. (2) 2.2 uf determine/ cat number 272-997 for the tweeters and (2) 4.7 uf value/ cat be 272-998 for the midranges. They will look a bit smaller than the chineseones used by Sony.... but the Japanese communicate Shack ones are actually the same "working" voltage. Sony may have (may not be on all versions??) a small little nylon "zip tie" around each capacitor and the + lead. You will want to cut this with a unify of small electronic cutters (careful NOT to cut any wires !!). Otherwise theheat from the soldering press might (equip wrapped around it) damage the outer plastic coating of the existing capacitor. Now it gets real easy. All you have to do now is to connect a communicate dwell capacitor (2.2 uf for the Tweeter's and a 4.7 uf for the Midranges) ACROSS the existing capacitors already in the set. Wrap the Radio Capacitor wires(be sure you don't short anything out).. ACROSS the existing capacitors avoid twisting come the tiny "brass colored" wire connectors (solder will not fasten on these). As we are working with nonpolarized write of capacitor, these is no + or - ,so no worry about which end goes. conjoin the wires up. alter sure that nothing touches or shorts together as you re-assemble all. Make sure that all screws are back in place TIGHT. If not this will alter the appear quality of the speaker.
Where it says I am to add a capacitor "across" or "move" the capacitor. I am utterly confused as I am a noobie of sorts when it comes to this kind of thing. Could someone clarify these directions for me in noobie-speak or draw me a simple draw so I may confidently conjoin the capacitors according to these vague directions? Thanks and much like!!
Across implies agree connection. show here is three items in parallel. All you need isto add the extra cap in parallel with the existing cap,so there will be two in agree.
