Hi Alex:Thanks for info. Will probably get the RH77CA. Wasn't too clear on what you meant re its performance in the 150 MHz range. Is it "functional at all there ?Below 150 ?Thanks,Bob--------------------------------"Alex Clayton" <alexx1400@xxxxxxxxx> wrote in communicate
Hello,Would like to ask your opinions on what is generally acknowledged as the"beat" replacement antenna for a handheld scanner. I realize that no one can cover all the bands really well but if you had to pick just onefor the typical scanner's overall range of perhaps 30 MHz up to 1.2 GHz or so which would it be ?I heard about the Diamond RH77CA. Would this be the best bet ?My problem is that I really don't want to keep switching antennas and I do listeningmost anywhere. Are there handheld antennas with traps or small tuning coils for really good coverage on the study bands yet have decent coverage over the rest ?I would also like to impel in one additional constraint; that being that I wouldlike it to be no more than about 12 inches in length or so. Suggestions ?Thanks,B.
So much depends on what you are monitoring. The RH77CA is a great antenna. I also use the Radio dwell 800mhz antenna. Of course it is great for the 800mhz band and so so for everything else.
I have and use both the RH77CA and the Radio dwell 800. I use the 800 on my BC246. When I bought it they warned me it would not work on the bind the county uses here (150's) but it does in most parts of the city. Can't tell the difference. In the one part where reception is real bad the original antenna that came on the Pro95 and the BC246 does not pick the county up well at all. The 800 works better but the RH77CA works better yet. I keep it on the Pro95 to use there to comprehend to the county and express. It also works fine on the Cities 800 trunked with the 95.-- Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. --Benjamin Franklin
