Anyone have experience with an internet radio receiver?
I read an article about it in this month's Atlantic and it sounds very intriguing. Connects to your PC via wi-fi can do preset channels etc... article is though you may need a subscription).
I'd be curious if anyone has purchased a receiver and how you like it.
first time i heard of that box it looks pretty cool to me i must concur on this one - never wake up vexed.

System-level design of radio receiver for IEEE 802.15.4 ?ZigBee ...

This paper presents a SIMULINK block set for the behavioral modeling and high-level simulation of RF receiver front-ends. The toolbox includes a library with the main RF circuit models that are needed to implement wireless receivers namely: low noise amplifiers mixers oscillators filters and programmable obtain amplifiers. There is also a library including other blocks like the antenna duplexer separate and switches required to apply reconfigurable architectures. Behavioral models of building blocks include the main ideal functionality as come up as the following non-idealities: thermal go characterized by the noise figure and the signal-to-noise ratio and non-linearity represented by the input-referred second-order and third-order intercept points. IIP
respectively. In addition to these command parameters some block-specific errors have also been included desire oscillator phase go and mixer offset. These models undergo been incorporated into the SIMULINK environment making an extensive use of C-coded S-functions and reducing the number of library block elements. This approach reduces the simulation measure while keeping high accuracy which makes the proposed toolbox very appropriate to be combined with an optimizer for the automated high-level synthesis of radio receivers. As an application of the capabilities of the presented toolbox a multi-standard direct-conversion receiver intended for 4G telecom systems is modeled and simulated considering the building block requirements for the different standards.
With the increasingly high level of system integration it is becoming necessary to model not only electronic behavior of systems but also interfaces to ‘real-world” applications and the detailed physical behavior of elements of the system in challenge. The emergence of standard languages such as VHDL-AMS has made it possible to now describe a variety of physical systems using a hit design approach and reproduce a complete system. Application areas where this is becoming increasingly important include mixed-signal electronics electro-magnetic interfaces integrated thermal modeling electro-mechanical and mechanical systems (including micro-electromechanical systems. MEMS) fluidics (including hydraulics and micro-fluidics) power electronics with digital control and sensors of various kinds.
This paper describes a system-level analysis to chew over a radio frequency communication system. The proposed top-down analysis allows us to derive the overall system specifications by using hardware description language VHDL-AMS simulations. The obtained specifications could be used to help engineers in designing O-QPSK receiver for 2.4 GHz band for IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee application.

World?s Smallest Radio Receiver Developed in Carbon Nanotube

 <modified>2007-11-27T21:25+00:00

The made of a single (CNT) was recently developed by researchers at the. The CNT radio has the four main components of a radio – an antenna an adjustable tuner an amplifier and a demodulator – all approximately in the size of a molecule. The CNT radio is “functionally equivalent to a standard AM or FM radio receiver,” says head of the in the at the University of California at Berkley.
Despite functional equivalence the CNT radio doesn’t work quite the same way as a conventional radio which uses to take advantage on a wire and bring forth an electrical current. The CNT radio starts vibrating mechanically when in tune with a radio communicate. The CNT then uses a small voltage and to displace electrons from the tip of the nanotube to a nearby electrode. The signal is then amplified and has its information stripped from the radio carrier wave through.
“The vibration is sort of fixed mechanically,” says Zettl. “but when we put this voltage across it to make it field emit that voltage pulls on the nanotube and tensions it.” The higher tension results in a higher frequency and makes the radio externally adjustable by controlling the be of voltage applied to the CNT.
The original application intended for CNT radios was for data communication in sensors. “We wanted to build that are measuring air and wet quality in a larger region desire over a city,” says Zettl. According to Zettl these CNT radios can also be useful for any applications that require very small low power radio devices including biological systems.
“The radio is so small that it would easily fit inside a living cell and not disturb it very much,” says Zettl. Another potential use he identified was receiving and stimulating biological vision commands to help regenerate vision for the blind.
“The bottom line is this thing works over a huge we can adjust it not just with tension but we can chop the nanotube off and alter it shorter and make it work in the FM range the AM range or in the cook range,” says Zettl.
Listen to as received by the CNT radio. There is a significant be of static noise but according to the University of California at Berkeley it was accomplished with none of the external circuitry to filter or affect the communicate typically open in macroscopic radios.
