"European Outback 3.0r Oem Radio" posted by ~Ray

Welcome to the Greatest Subaru Outback Resource! We proudly serve the Global Subaru Owners and Enthusiasts Community! Does anyone know what make/model is the OEM radio on Outback 3.0R in Europe? It has a 6CD changer. Tape radio build in and an extra CD changer input (on the selector anyway). On the fascia it has GX-201LE designation. Need to add an ipod adapter via digital connection and would like to avoid disassembling the console just to find that out (necessary information for ordering the right parts). Thanks Hi from the UK. I think you will find that the OEM supplier of audio equipment to european designated Outbacks is 'Kenwood'. They tend to have the prefix 'GX' on their systems. The other supplier is labelled as 'McIntosh'. Many regardsDavid K Originally posted by davidkirkham Hi from the UK. Greets Bart Hi again, can anyone give me a light on the colour codes of the speakers and polarity ??so far I didn't find any hint that the wireing is the same in european models as for the audio connection. I'm investigating disconnecting the tape drive and using that audio signal input but its all very prelimenary. "Upgrading OEM Radio?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:59:50

Hello. This may be a dumb challenge or one which has been answered before which I haven't found in the forum. But.... Can you buy the OEM radios (eg the navigation copy) to grade the existing radios? I undergo a new A3 and it was only available in the color & options I wanted with the basic concert radio (has an iPod adapter but it doesn't seem to work very well) but I'd like to add bluetooth & sat and undergo it factory. Any suggestions? Does Audi sell this directly (what would it be etc)? Thanks in go! From looking at different models of the A3 and talking with the dealer it isn't any easy change. I believe all the wiring is already there so in that since it should be plug and play. But if you be at some pictures of A3s with navigation or the Symphony radio you will see that the radio sits at the top of the belt along which means those indicator lights for the ESP and Passenger Air Bag and the slot for credit cards is moved to the furnish and its a different size. I think the climate controls are also a different size. Try to sight some pictures and you'll see what I'm talking about. If you could sight a totaled A3 that had all the components you be that would be your best option. There are populate who have done the switch. There is a double-din belt along kit available for acquire (don't bequeath what site though) and oem navi systems are available (from ebay maybe). It won't be cheap. Prob exceed off going with an aftermarket navi system. Please forgive me if my post isn't all that informative and if it doesn't alter much comprehend. I'm all hopped up on sinus/allergy meds and I evaluate I might have inadvertantly taken the 'night time' version on accident. _____________________________2006 A3 2.0T. 6MT. Arctic White / Beige. Open Sky. Wrapped in 15% tint. K40 radar detector (stealth install).. other than that everything else is stock (for now) My car has 4 rings my girlfriend has none. Most new aftermarket stereos (at least higher end offerings) will have an ipod interface that will work MUCH exceed than oem. _____________________________2006 A3 2.0T. 6MT. Arctic White / Beige. change state Sky. Wrapped in 15% tint. K40 radar detector (stealth lay).. other than that everything else is stock (for now) My car has 4 rings my girlfriend has none. I'm not sure what model year you undergo but if it's an '08 then I might have a suggestion for you. I was at the dealership this morning and I saw an '08 A3 in the showroom and I started looking through it to see what has changed. I saw on the window sticker that it had the ipod glove box connection installed and I wanted to see how good of a job I did installing mine compared to the factory/dealer installation. Much to my affect Audi has created a horizontal docking displace in the glove box. It's in the same place as the old call ipod connection up on the top left in that pocket. Now to my suggestion. That piece in the glove compartment can pop out without having to remove the glove box. You could pop it out and replace the Audi supplied cable with your aftermarket radio supplied ipod cable. Audi's new Ipod docking station looks really clean but I can see that it could be difficult attaching the ipod in while sitting in the driver's lay. I tried using my nano that I had in my take from the passenger lay and had a little difficulty getting it in there. Maybe a beat size ipod would be easier. On my install I gave myself enough bring about to allow me to displace the cable out beyong the glove box opening a foot or so. If you do have this new connection type and are able to get it out of the car be sure and post some pics (lie approve and align) so we can see how this is put together. Did you analyse vagparts com? They have a double din cage although I don't evaluate that is what you are looking for. This was a really good create verbally up with pictures on how to chagne out the enitre sound system of the A3. There isn't any wiring harness as of yet you basically undergo to forget about the factory wiring and run new wires. My 08 A3 is in the obtain now having the innovate Z2 put in with Bluetooth and XM w/merchandise. Installer was upfront that the steering go around controls may not bring home the bacon (which ordain remove over $200 in parts/labor. I can be with that as they are clunky to mouth with. He had schematic for A4 to check compatability. I'll give a inform tomorrow. quote:ORIGINAL: dr6837 My 08 A3 is in the shop now having the Pioneer Z2 put in with Bluetooth and XM w/merchandise. He had schematic for A4 to check compatability. I'll furnish a report tomorrow. Doesn't the Z2 have a remote control (or 2)? In my F150. I NEVER used my steering go around controls because I had a remote. _____________________________2006 A3 2.0T. 6MT. Arctic White / Beige. change state Sky. Wrapped in 15% tint. He had schematic for A4 to check compatability. I'll furnish a inform tomorrow." alter let me know how it looks!. I anticipate my concern there is the trim go that is used to make it fit and if there is going to be a attach available because I dislike the idea of having to cut the existing wires or pulling the cut and running new stuff. Ok many points to communicate here. I'll try to be as brief as possible. Upgrading OEM: It is possible to add satellite and Bluetooth to your existing stereo. It is also possible to grade to the OEM double-DIN nav unit but you will need a new double-DIN cage new set of buttons (flashers airbag light. ESP etc) and possible a new climate hold back unit. All of these upgrades are covered in detail at you can also sight most/all of the move numbers needed from their write-ups. Cheapest option for the nav unit sat tuner etc is going to be eBay. You can order these parts from the dealer but they will be exponentially more expensive. Aftermarket: Be prepared to get your hands alter with the wiring. There is a Metra harness that ordain fit the A3 (I'm using it myself) but it requires a bit of extra work. The cater and ground wires coming out of the harness are reversed and the A3 has no furnish for switched 12v or illumination lead. If you decide to go this route let me know and I ordain go into more dilate. As for running an aftermarket iPod telecommunicate into your glove box. I just popped out the left attach and dremeled out the turn in the approve (used for a CD changer) and passed the cord through. The hit is only about 1" x 0.5". If you decide to go with a double-DIN aftermarket unit you are still going to need all of the parts to rearrange your dash (climate controls buttons. DIN cage etc.) Also with ANY aftermarket stereo you are going to need an antenna adapter if you want to bear AM/FM capability. Whatever you end to do be sure to affix up with any questions. I went through a bit of annoy installing my aftermarket stereo and I can help you avoid the common pitfalls. Also if you do go aftermarket. gratify communicate me before you cut up your stock harness! The Metra attach.

"6 CD OEM Radio questions" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:17:42

Hi,Well my ebay purchase of the 6 CD oem HU showed up yesterday and it looks like it was described in the auction (like new) thankfully now I need some assistance from people that experience these radios in finding out what pins belong to the subwoofer out and what write of close I can macgyver together that ordain be solid enough to use to act my own wireharness to the subwoofer (oem) that is arriving on monday. The only thing I didn't sight is that the faceplate on my radio is the tan/brown cover and the one on this HU is black. Fortunately it looks as if the faceplate comes off with 6 screws so hopefully it ordain be the same on my current 1CD oem HU so that I can keep the cook/tan alter scheme going and not have to have a color radio in there. Anyway who can express me which plugs on the back goes to the subwoofer and what kind of connector I can get to make my own harness to connect the oem subwoofer to the head unit. Remember I undergo the RT transport so there isn't a subwoofer attach in there (I don't think there is anyway). Thanks, Not Registered with the ROC? Registration is remove and you'll be joining the #1 Honda Ridgeline owner and enthusiast club in the world! You'll also be removing this ad so please join the Ridgeline Owners unify today! I'd like to repeat DesertRidgeline's question about the subwoofer connection on the back of the head unit. (I've made a similar purchase on eBay -- head unit & OEM sub -- to retrofit into my RTX.)I do know which continue unit connector is for the subwoofer & I found a post here that specifies "by number" which pins are used. The post does not however describe how the pins are numbered. That would be a help & safe me a ton of multi-metering. Does anyone experience of a source for the subwoofer connector close (short of buying a harness from Honda)? Alternatively has anyone used an off-the-shelf molex write connector for this fit. back up challenge: Does anyone experience off-hand what type bolts (length threading etc) I need to mount the subwoofer?T. I. A.[Yeah yeah. I experience someone's going to ask why I didn't go aftermarket on this. '07 RTX You guys just be to examine here for postings about "wiring attach" or "wiring color codes" or similar. There have been postings in the past for this. I don't evaluate any of the connectors are molex. As for the subwoofer mounting screws..... I removed mine but undergo not idea what I did with the screws. If no one here knows. I'd buy an assortment of metric screws and washers. You should be able to calculate length required from your own sub. I've done the searches. I sight people that have installed an oem wiring harness but havn't run across anybody that has created their own subwoofer wiring attach for the OEM sub. Plenty of populate have created or tapped into or altered their existing oem subwoofer harness to put in an aftermarket sub too. I anticipate I'll just have to either buy the factory harness if it's even available as a seperate item or just wing it and hope for the beat. Ask and you shall receive.. Here are listings the wiring terminals for several types of CD players. Note the eight pin connector has the sub-woofer outs. As for plugs no idea the eight pin connector is part of the OEM harness. Thanks for taking the time to do that bginvestor. If I ever get a working 6CD OEM unit this will be very useful so at least I now know which pins the sub out is on.
