I just read that my favorite author passed away after struggling for the past few years with amyloidosis. I'm very saddened by his death both for the loss of this great writer and because of how much his books helped me "flee" my daily troubles with CP. In talking about this with another huge WOT (wheel of time) series fan from my CP support group it got us started talking about how much different authors of all genre's of literature have helped us flee deal with or otherwise cope with the various negative things in life. So what books/authors do you all construe to escape? I've found that even when I can't focus enough to construe listening to Books on CD has been another way to escape as the narrator of the schedule takes you on journeys beyond the bounds of your immediate environment. Its just too bad that Robert Jordan was unable to end the final book in his WOT series. I've been reading them since the early 1990s and I would so have liked to been able to complete the series and the journey I've been on with these characters for so desire. These books helped me through the beat move of my early spiney jaunt and have kept me company on the many long nights since. Anyone else a fantasy/sci-fi reader? Romance? Mystery? Suspense? Fiction or non-fiction? Does it back up you with your CP?Theresa
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and come up preserved be but rather to skid in collide with thoroughly used up totally worn out and screaming "WOW what a ride!
I'm sorry. Here I thought I was the only one who felt a sense of deep loss when one of my favs died; there has been much consider whether he died "naturally" or by suicide. I'm not gonna mention his name. But he was a humorist and left quite a library of happy pennings in his path. I laughed so hard aloud reading his books. I highlighted those babies and dog-earred so many pages. When I need a pick-me-up. I just flip to my favorite parts. bunco stories are my fav genre. Theresa. I haven't a long attention span especially while in pain. There's only one book I've ever construe that is non-fiction and I could not set it down from the moment I opened the cover: "Seabiscuit." I read it over-night one long night. I fell in love with the jockey the horse the story. I was crushed because I didn't anticpate the outcome. I was so heartbroken when I got to the end. But it is my favorite schedule. There are a few others: by Nicholas Sparks (but my likes also depend on the affect or central theme). Some of his writings have kept me up for hours but others... I dropped the books and never got to the endings. I do have a fav non-fiction compose only I don't be to post too much about myself; he became a personal friend and gave me galleys. I love his "way with words" and how he braids chapters. I don't even think enough in advance to consider what life or nature afflicts on all.
Theresa your post reminds me that one of my favorites died a one or two years ago. Kurt Vonnegut. I really like his odd approaches to important concepts about our human condition. Yes reading to bad I now drop off after reading a few pages has given me something to do while in pain. With the death of Isaac Asimov the hope that his foundation trilogy [considered the greatest sci-fi story] would grow to a fourth book died too. Sorry you aren't able to read the final schedule now with his death.
