SPC has upgraded all of northern IL including all of Chicago with a MODERATE assay of severe storms. Due to limited and or no darken adjoin over northern IL significant heating is taking place across the area leading the atmosphere to a potentially explosive severe weather event!Temps at or exceeding 90 with dew points in the low to mid 70s are creating very high instability values. In addition winds are quite strong in the upper atmosphere. Also due to outflow/boundaries from previous storms in the area this may lead to some veering of wind profiles. Hence the threat is there for some tornadoes as well. However the main threat is damaging go and perhaps some isolated large hail. If strong heating continues and the storm shows signs of a bowing structure it would not surprise me to see some gusts in excess of 80mph!!
