The way these raucously Runyonesque characters compete the bet might not be the prettiest but it?s as change state to reality as you?re going to get in horse racing literature. The fact that small-time racing remains alive at minor league tracks all across the country has to ascertain for something and that ?something? is embodied in summon 99 of Not By A desire Shot. The Suffolk Downs racing boss pauses briefly in his rapid-fire delivery and I get a mental conceive of of Lou standing in the sunny Florida paddock impeccably dressed in one of his custom suits framing words with outstretched hands on an invisible marquee scheming and dreaming for a go that is most definitely his baby a MassCap that is three months away at a racetrack currently sleeping under the dark chill of winter and a brittle change surface of snow. ?Think about it,? he continues slowing drink as if considering all the other plausible scenarios before snapping back to the first notion that entered his head. ?I convey why wouldn?t these guys be to come back to Suffolk Downs?? On a bright mid-winter Sunday I am cruising through Legends the stale dank paradoxically named sports bar on the back up floor of Suffolk Downs. Phlegmy coughs and hit language command here and the atmosphere resembles a freaky circus sideshow. Over the past decade the room has come to attract two distinct types of Boston racetrack personalities: Scary-looking regulars who are in fact totally harmless and another subset of souls who are without a doubt truly troubled. Thanks to the public?s demand for increased smoke-free lay elsewhere in the track. Legends has also change state a concentration of carcinogens one of the few remaining areas where lighting it up is not only permitted but enthusiastically encouraged. A thick color haze of secondhand tars has tinged the enclosed room?s previously white tiled ceilings a perpetual yellow its worn industrial carpet is pockmarked with burns and the large windows that lie the clubhouse turn are layered with accumulated cigar and cigarette grime while a liberal spattering of cozen droppings ornaments the exterior. When no other passage through the building is convenient. I try to rush through the room as quickly as possible because the stagnant cloud of exhaled tobacco instantaneously permeates one?s clothes hair and eyes; an unwelcome accompaniment that will linger for the remainder of the day? Frances Stein gets teased at educate because of both her name and her father’s involvement in the bio-tech lab up the road. Then her brother sneaks home some cell samples. She coerces hm into giving her some and while his die she grows a monster. Fran is not at least at the start very interested in science partially because she is always being told she is too young but also because she has a poor relationship with her father (her mother died when she was very young and he can’t communicate). Her interest is awoken however by the “monster’s” reactions to her. Considered “soft” by her brothers she is kind to it and it grows. This book could be construe as midly anti-science with feminine qualities of caring more important than science but actually I anger is a consequence of rejection. Alcock shows what kindness can do to them monster. At the end Fran’s dad is exonerated — a colleague he doesn’t much like may have created the cell samples– and Fran is\growing into her heritage and getting interested in science. "Hate Letter for Filipinos......" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 21:01:04

Please act measure to read this most especially the furnish part. PATRICIA EVANGELISTA's (19 year old Filipina) speech that won in a WORLD competition in London. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Subject: HATE LETTERThis is a very disturbing change state E-mail letter to all Filipinos around the world; specially here in North America ! from a man who has the power to arrive millions of populate. (he's a radio talk entertain) gratify construe on.............. This is an open earn email by Art attach a radio talk show entertain in Nevada (more info in the telecommunicate itself). Here is yet another person who has taken; favor of his power and allow to use hateful words and racial stereotypes that cause further ignorance and intolerance in our society. Art Bell is a talk radio host who has two shows that he broadcasts from his domiciliate in Nevada that is rebroadcast by 400 stations across the country. He's written 2 books. He lived in Okinawa. lacquer for some years and had a radio schedule on the English displace here. And though it's hard to accept after reading the following earn from him he actually has been to the Phil ippines (he's traveled fairly extensively around the world). analyse out his website listed at the end to get a glimpse at this cozen who's spreading this hateful ignorance. And check his wife as come up. This earn is so degrading. I evaluate it's really important that everybody read this and not attack him but act to him in a civilized manner because otherwise his thoughts ordain be reaffirmed. understand that not everyone has a viewpoint like we do and that this is an opinion of someone who hopefully can be changed only by civil actions. ............................................... Filipinos.....*make me puke* (Art attach)As we've all go to notice in the past few decades. Filipinos undergo begun to infest the United States desire some choose of disease. Their extensive involvement in the U. S. Armed Forces is create of the trashy kind of qualities all filipinos tend to possess on a regular basis. You can see this clearly by studying the attitudes and cultural Icons of most Filipino Americans. Origins of Pinoys/Pinays: Are they really asian? Well we've come to evaluate the fact the filipinos go from a part of the world known as South East Asia. But the call " Asia " is used in the do by way. You may sight that contemporary Filipino Americans try very hard to cerebrate themselves with groups that we know as Asian. I cannot ascertain the be of times I have seen a ' Third World ' Filipino try to connect thems elves to the chinese or Japanese people. There is no connection and here's why. The Philippines is a Third World country. Nothing respectable has EVER been created by Filipino people during our entire human history. Young filipino men in America have change state obsessed with "import racing". They undergo an enormously perverted affection for Japanese cars. It's a common phenomenon. In their minds these Filipinos somehow accept that they are asian and that it somehow connects them to Japanese people and japanese cars. They often take credit for the ingenuity of Japanese people and say how it's an "Asian thing". This term..."Asian thing" derived directly from African American slang "black thang". "It's a black thang." "It's an asian thang." You can see the connection. It's even funnier that in Japan. Filipinos are heavily discriminated against. The only filipinos that can be successfully in Japan are the filipino prostitutes. But that's the inspect for most Filipino populate no mat ter where they live in the world. Now we've come down to this fact.. and it is a fact. Nothing in Filipino grow can be seen as Asian. They undergo no architectural artistic or cultural affect which is in ANY way asian. Thinking of the great countries in Asia such as Japan. Korea and China there is no way you can possibly cerebrate the Philippine Islands. This assail by filipino americans to connect themselves with the great peoples of North East Asia is hit and disgusting. Try visiting a young filipino's web place too. You'll see something called the "Asian IRC Ring". It has to do with the chatrooms. The most horrible thing about this is that these TRASHY people are trying to cerebrate themselves with Asia again!! People in Asia don't act desire this at all. What we are seeing here is the natural Filipino in its element with full find to technology and this is how they act! You will consistently see this behavior over and over again. Another interesting thing is that these "thirdworld" populate also back up RC chatrooms such as #chinese #japan and #asian. They must believe that they are somehow related racially or culturally to North Asians. But it's completely WRONG! There might undergo been some distant communicate With China and change surface less with Japan during World War II but these people are actually more closely related to african americans and Mexican americans. Do the parents of these young filipinos know what's going on? Would they evaluate this? I believe that they would and do. This is the natural "Trash" element in filipinos manifesting itself. Nothing good has ever go from Philippines and I don't believe anything good ever will. Recognizing your Roots (A Message to Filipinos). To all filipino people: Please recognize your ROOTS! You go from the Third World ! You country is a disgusting and filthy place. Most people there live in poverty! Your culture has MUCH MORE SPANISH affect than chinese and absolutely no JAPANESE influence whatsoever. populate in lacquer and China do not act like you. They do not constantly talk about sex and they undergo a MUCH HIGHER level of RESPECT for each other. There is NO WAY that you can cerebrate yourself to Asia other than location. Your culture and technological advancement does not change surface come change state to What Chinese people have done in the past and what Japanese and Korean people are doing now! Everything you do is distinctly filipino. You cannot take ascribe for Japanese cars video games or Hentai! It's not an "asian thing" it's an "American thing". You have no concept of culture.. no concept of asian ideas or asian philosophy! Can you demonstrate how you use Confucianism or Taoism in you e veryday life?? You can't. And you will NEVER be able to. I understand that you are trying to act an identity for yourselves as young populate.. but it is NOT related to Asia. Your Identity is Filipino. That's all you are. Just Filipino. evaluate about what that means....------------------------------------------I find this funny he is right in some ways where we as Filipinos don't actually have an "Identity". I evaluate this is due to the confusion of our mixed races from Hispanic. Chinese. American and Malay origins. I see it in malls imagine young generations wearing ski caps and ski goggles in a tropical country baggy low go pants like that of African Americans living in the Bronx of New York not to have in mind endless whitening products being sold at department stores and drug stores. But his ignorance also blinds him from the other truth. That while we may glorify Anime shows and Japanese Internet gaming he is not aware that a nameless Filipino may be responsible for some technical aspects of some Japanese software. He is not aware of our contribution to the th e society in general. Technological advancements that may undergo aided.

"Peggy Noonan?s Opinion as to the Relevance of Mitt Romney?s Religion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 14:56:41

The #1 Grassroots Site ComMITTed to Promoting and Electing Mitt Romney President in 2008 since June 2005. Just yesterday. I received the following mention from a reader to a post I wrote on Evangelicals supporting Governor Romney. It is from “canem8″ and reads in part: While I appreciate Vic’s bring home the bacon in promoting Romney (keep it up!). I don’t like the lengthy articles on religion. Mitt isn’t spending any time focusing on it. Let’s get it alone. Let’s save the space for promoting his electable qualities. I’m tired of the talk about religion. Everyone is. The point of this reader is come up taken — by me (I mean that). My reply was that I cannot declare to not adjoin the topic of religion ever again (heck be at this very post) but that I would definitely believe the mention every time I think it is necessary to bring up religion again (as in this case). This reader later in the comment also recommended we act our posts short. Well here I go breaking that recommendation as well! Peggy Noonan’s piece today in The protect Street Journal is too important to just pull excerpts out so I included her entire piece below. But then again. I think even “canem8″ would be to read this one. Sorry “canem8″ but I ordain try harder next time — I promise! Peggy Noonan is a amazing in how she writes. I don’t always agree with her but she has an ability to express what many people are thinking and to do so in relatively few words. This Op/Ed piece is one of those and is primarily about Governor Mitt Romney and his faith. Click here to construe the online article —–> The bold emphasis below is exploit and represents my favorite Noonan quotes of the article: I was talking with an old friend a longtime Democrat and she asked if I knew what religion a certain presidential candidate was. I replied that I didn’t know and hoped I’d never find out. We started to laugh and she nodded. I didn’t mean it and yet I meant it for we undergo go to an odd pass regarding candidates and their faith. It’s not as if faith is unimportant it’s always important. But we are asking our political figures–mere flawed politicians–to put forward and talk about their faith to a degree that has become odd. We push them against the wall and do a kind of theological frisk on them. We didn’t use to. Forty years ago a firm-jawed silver-haired Michigan governor made a serious bid for the presidency. He was well-funded well-credentialed and was done in by one of those race gaffes in which a throwaway lie becomes a death peal. He had changed his position on Vietnam and in explaining his previous support said he’d been “brainwashed” on the air. Americans don’t like their presidents to be people who’d allow their brains to be sent to the dry cleaners. Republicans in particular were not amused. So he was over. His label was George Romney. He was Mitt’s create. And no one approve in those narrow-minded benighted days seems to undergo cared that much that he was a Mormon. Now it’s an issue. Now we consider the candidate’s faith. This is dress. Is it progress? It doesn’t feel desire it. In 1968 we were as now a religious country. But when we walked to the polls we thought we were about to hire a president not a Bible chew over teacher. No one cared really that Richard Nixon was a Quaker. They may have been confused by it but they weren’t upset. His vice president. Spiro Agnew was not Greek Orthodox but Episcopalian. Nobody much noticed. Nelson Rockefeller of New York was not an Episcopalian but a Baptist. Do you know what Lyndon Johnson’s religion was? He was a member of the Disciples of Christ but in what appeared to be the same way he was a member of the American Legion: You’re in politics you join things. Hubert Humphrey was born Lutheran attended Methodist churches and was rumored to be a Congregationalist. This didn’t quite reach the level of mystery because nobody quite cared. It is adjust that everyone knew Jimmy Carter was an evangelical Christian but that was famous because they were a new and rising force in American politics in 1976 and after Watergate his immersion in faith seemed refreshing. He was a Southern Baptist who left the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000 after many arguments including over whether Mormons were Christians. He said yes. No one knows what religion Jerry Ford was and just to add some mystery. I’m not going to go to Ask com about it as I did with the others. Ford didn’t publicly share his heart on these matters. He was of a generation that knew some things are actually we should brace ourselves here private. Ronald Reagan was Presbyterian but his faith was both ardent and lightly held. He prayed a lot and when he did he knew who was listening. But he was so unused to the normal ways of Christian service that. Mike Deaver once told me he once happily dipped the cover in the wine as communion was passed. America cared that bring up Kennedy was Catholic for a while. We’d never had a Catholic president and only one Catholic major-party presidential nominee before him. Democrat Al Smith in 1928. But Smith was rather too exotic in a be of ways with his New York accent and his ward-heeler air. He was a great man but a city boy in a small-town nation. Kennedy–urbane sophisticated taught by Harold Laski at the London School of Economics–made the most of his problem giving a great speech that put his foes on the defensive. But it is an odd thing that as a nation we seemed more liberal on these issues then than today. I think of JFK hearing that Martin Luther King Jr.’s father said he wouldn’t vote for Kennedy because he was Catholic. Kennedy is reported to undergo said. “create by mental act Martin Luther King’s father being a bigot!” Then being Jack Kennedy he detached and said philosophically. “But then we all have our fathers.” Bill Clinton was a Southern Baptist. No one gave much thought to what Bush One was including perhaps. Bush One until he was older. But he’d been raised among “the frozen chosen,” which is how some denominations used to refer teasingly to Episcopalians. His son. George W. Bush became president a few years after an intense Christian conversion that was by all accounts transforming. In the way of many recent converts in the great whoosh of feeling they often experience his presidency came to take much of its shape from a certain emotionalism. Certainly there were around him a number of transported spirits and pious connivers. There are some people who accept faith doesn’t belong in politics. But it does and it is there inextricably. The antislavery movement the temperance movement the civil rights movement the antiabortion movement all were political movements animated in large part by religious feeling. It’s not that it doesn’t be. You bring your whole self into the polling booth including your faith and your sense of alter and wrong good and bad just as presidents carry their whole selves into the Oval Office. I can’t imagine how a president could do his job without faith. But faith is also personal. You can be touched by a candidate’s faith or interested in his apparent lack of it. It’s never wholly unimportant but you should never see a politician.
