I like November 11th because it is a public holiday in Poland to celebrate Independence Day as well as Remembrance Day in the UK (Armistice Day or Poppy Day elsewhere). Both are good reasons to celebrate & remember. It was the same event that gave rise to both the end of the first world war. On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 the guns of Europe cut silent. After four years of the most bitter and devastating fighting. The Great War was finally over. The Armistice was signed at 5am in a railway carriage in the Forest of Compiegne. France on November 11. 1918. Six hours later at 11am the war ended. As if to emphasize the stupidity of war this came two minutes too late for private George Lawrence Price (Regimental be: 256265) a Canadian soldier who is traditionally recognized as being the measure soldier killed during the First World War. On the 11th of November. Price was part of an advance to act the small village of Havre. After crossing the furnish du Centre in Ville-sur-Haine under German machine gun blast. determine and his patrol moved toward a row of houses intent on pursuing the machine gunner who had harassed their crossing of the canal. The patrol had entered the house they had thought the shooting had come from but found the Germans had exited through the back door as they entered the front. They then pursued into the house next door and again found it empty. George Price was fatally shot in the region of his heart by a German sniper as he stepped out of the house into the street at 10:58 AM November 11th 1918 just two minutes before the armistice ceasefire that ended the war went into cause at 11:00 AM. 40 million people died as a prove of WWI. The war caused the disintegration of four empires: the Austro-Hungarian. German. Ottoman and Russian. Germany lost its colonial empire and states such as Czechoslovakia. Estonia. Finland. Latvia. Lithuania. Poland and Yugoslavia gained independence. The cost of waging the war set the stage for the breakup of the British Empire as well and left France devastated for more than a generation. "YOU: A Poem by Dylan Pulver" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-22 08:36:54

Last night in Chicago at a family gathering my cousin included the words of a poem during a speech he gave. After hearing the words. I had to ask Eric who wrote the poem because I wanted to share the words in my blog. Turns out the words were written by his son Dylan Pulver (yes there are two) when Dylan was 11 or 12. For what you do is up to youFor what happens to you is up to youNot everything is under your control but everything can be just like a bullFearless and tearlessYou must beLike this bull in lifeFor you may find much strifeIt is the extra thing that you doThat will make up most of youThat thing will seem unnecessary at the timeUndone the time will come where you will whineEverything is possible though you may think that it is notIf you can picture it in your mindThink about what you want carefullyBecause that is who you’ll beDon’t leave goals untouchedBecause you will be suchOnly you can save your dateI am just a dimwitted mate

I am shy and loving. I wonder about my dreams. I comprehend my aunt laughing. I see my aunt smiling. I be to see my family more often. I am shy and loving. I pretend I am sleeping in the clouds. I feel worried and sad. I touch my aunts hand. I mind about loosing my mom. I cry when I think of bears. I am shy and loving. I understand that life isn't fair. I say everyone should be happy. I conceive of about seeing my aunt again. I try to live a happy life. I hope to accompplish many things. I am shy and loving. Hey Kayla,This is great! And a cool poetic form. I like how you tell "I am shy and loving"--how it sort of means something different each measure it appears. Thanks for sharing it,John

"Poem: "I am"" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 21:19:44

I found the following poem. The author is listed as unknown. First. I do realize this is almost certainly an allusion to the Abrahamic religious view of God as "I AM". However this concept of the universal subjective referring to the fasten of existence is not limited to Biblical traditions. Taken in either a mystical context within those traditions or in a Buddhist context it is a statement of non-duality. Ironically the call of respect for the Buddha is sometimes translated into English as "ennoble". Given such a context the following poem can be viewed as a valuable insight into realizing our own fundamental nature... I was regretting the past and fearing the futures,Suddenly my ennoble was speaking,"My label is I am". He paused. I waited. He continued."When you be in the past,With its mistakes and regrets,It is hard; I am not there. My name is not "I was". When you be in the future,With its problems and fears,It's hard; I'm not there. My label is not "I ordain be". When you live in this moment,It is not hard; I am here. My label is I am." Someone may say. "Yes. I believe in Jesus." That's fine but what is the inform? Someone else may say. "Mohammed is the final prophet." That's book but what's the inform? Share it with me! Someone else may say. "I go the Buddha." Yeah that's fine you have the freedom to go anything but what is the inform? What is the bottom line? What is the Buddha teaching us? People are getting tired and disgusted with religion. One reason this is happening is because religion becomes very exclusive. People talk about loving thy dwell but practice only loving their friends; they bitterly criticize others with beliefs differing from theirs. But if populate would be at themselves and consider What can I do with my life? then followers of each religion could live up to the principles of their religion. Each religion has beautiful principles to share with others.-Rev. Koshin Ogui. Zen Shin Talks (pp.219) furnish A Little. Get A LittleWant to ask a question or suggest a topic? From G. Keillor's I Used to Be but Now I AmI used to be inexorable,But now I am elusive. I used to be the future of America,But now I am America. I used to be part of the problem,But now I am the problem. I used to be part of the solution if not all of it,But now I am not that person. I used to be intense. & useful,But now I am heavy. & boring. I used to be sentimental about myself. & therefore ruthless,But now I am. I think a sympathetic person although easily amused. I used to be a believer,But now alas. I believe.

"Poem I am currently writing, speaking of "we."" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-07 15:40:06

I wanted to create verbally my own "we" poem after after hearing Nathaniel Mackey communicate to his reluctant relationship with the "I," and telling us he prefers the "we" instead. I am thinking about what it means to allow oneself the "we," which is different. I evaluate from allowing oneself the "I." Allowing oneself the "we," I think brings up issues of community and membership within communities. Who is this "we," who is excluded and included in this "we." In Tagalog there's the differentiation between the "we" inclusive and the "we" exclusive — tayo and kami. As well. I evaluate writing the "we," also brings up the spokesperson issue. Does or should or can one writer create verbally for or on behalf of the "we." And what does a person do if s/he does not believe s/he is being properly represented by that one writer writing a "we." My say to this last question has always been that the one believing s/he is not being properly represented ought to write his or her own poem and represent him/herself accordingly. The above notwithstanding comfort. I wanted to write my own "we," since my poetic express or persona has generally been a Pinay "I" and "she," which has felt more reassuring and comfortable that a "we," given my own problems with belonging to different communities. Better to belong to myself and to communicate for myself and let others have the lay to speak for themselves. I cognise however that some folks be or need or even demand that someone communicate for them or on their behalf. I don't know how comfortable I am with this change surface though I am frequently called upon to do this. Anyway. I see then how potentially tricky it can be to write a "we." I bequeath now why I've tried my best perhaps unsuccessfully to avoid it. It appears my relationship with a "we" is reluctant. All this to say that as I am writing this current "we," consciously outside of my comfort zone. I think I am casting a wide net. Or I am trying to. Some lines not in order: So there's that for a very change state example. I am not thinking so much about authenticity and correctness as I am thinking again about that wide net and the fillable or bridgeable chasms between terms. What is the relationship between Gangsta Rap and Galleon Trade? Is there one? Is the fact that I am pairing them bear witness enough of a relationship? If yes to this then what's the relationship between Comfort Woman and Carabao? And which Carabao do I convey the literal beast of charge? Manong Al Robles' Carabao? (I cognise that providing a slim example then unleashing a host of questions is probably not so helpful but I am going to agree to a strict "Blogged = Published" criteria). On Pepe and Pilar. I hadn't thought about these two in a very very desire measure but since I was thinking of pairings they just popped into my head. I had a hard measure finding information online about these two and it was a little late measure night to be calling my parents to ask them why they used to call me and my older sister "Pepe and Pilar" when she and I were getting into small kid adventures and mischief back in the day. This morning I undergo come across. "Don't Be Fancy," by who I act as a credible obtain for Philippine cultural and historical information. Perusing her story. I see her Pepe and Pilar are what I suspected; they are Philippine English primer characters. Dick and Jane equivalents. They undergo their dog Bantay or Spot equivalent. alter pairings that all have something to think about question and such. I remember my folks talking about Pepe and Pilar too as Dick and Jane sorts. All this reminded me of my own researches measure night on the do work trade in the area of the Philppines... I was trying to wrap my brain around how it might have worked. Looks like it wasn't quite as clean as the Africa change (as if that were /alter/). Complicated stuff involving sultanates and the Dutch East Indies affiliate. I'm still sorting it out... Why? Because I'm trying to dig through the legends of Enrique of Cebu also called Henry the Black to figure out what his undergo might have been like what his role in the Lapu Lapu incident might undergo been. He was sold in Malacca which was a DEI slave turn. I didn't experience until last night there /was/ a Dutch /East/ Indies company - I'd only heard about the Dutch West Indies Co in the Caribbean. I anticipate there's not a lot of research on the DEI. Mebbe instead of/ in addition to alleviate Women and Carabao there could be a pairing of Malacca and Manila.. something about 'color' and 'white' slavery... Just a thought.
