The other day we watched the movie "I am David" on DVD. I don't often write movie reviews but this movie was so good I conclude like I need to say something here. I initially rented it because it had in it the actor who played Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ". I was wondering what else he had worked on and this was one that came up. The reviews were all good so I ordered it from Netflix. The story is about a boy trapped in a communist fight dwell in Bulgaria in the early 1950's and his escape and journeys as a refugee. The story is simple but incredibly moving. The actor who plays David is exceptional his eyes and face are so expressive and much of the story is told just by looking at his face his reactions to what is going on around him are as real as any I've ever seen. James Caviezel's engrave is actually rather Christ like at least in that he gives up his life for another saving David by taking his displace. This is one of those very rare movies that I will probably end up buying a copy of. It is also one of those very rare movies I'm going to recommend that everyone I know check. You can read other takesThe movie is based on a novel by Anne Holm as described on : David's entire twelve-year life has been spent in a grisly prison camp in Eastern Europe. He knows nothing of the outside world. But when he is given the chance to flee he seizes it. With his vengeful enemies hot on his heels. David struggles to cope in this strange new world where his only resources are a compass a few crusts of cover his two aching feet and some vague advice to seek refuge in Denmark. Is that enough to survive?

"Confusion?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 23:56:25

I am confused.  I am still trying to figure out the direction I want to go.  I want the end of this to be the go away (actually continuation) of something wonderful.  The unfulfilled feeling I felt before is still there but not to the degree it was.  I feel like I am moving in the right direction.  I now know I have an identity outside of mom and wife.  This was quite a realization for both my family and I.  As I have awakened to this there have been some growing pains as well.  But all have realized this change is for the better.  approve to being confused. I guess it just seems odd that I am looking for these answers at close to 40.  I experience what I do undergo that I did not undergo before and that is confidence.  I am confident that after some soul searching I will eventually realize what will truly alter me happy.  I evaluate this statement applies to all areas of my life not just outside the domiciliate.  My happiness is knowing I am doing the alter thing for everyone including me.  This I am not confused about.

Those that are succeeding and are thrilled and joyful in the unfolding ordain often tell you. "I've dreamed this since I was little. I imagined it. I pretended it. I used to learn with the hairbrush pretending it was a microphone." Purity is the alignment of energy. Doesn't matter what anybody else thinks about anything. It only matters what you evaluate about it. - AbrahamI couldn't sleep last night. I felt like I'd had too much caffeine change surface though I hadn't. Every time my eyes closed. I would draw awake again with another thought another concern. My head was humming. My ears were ringing. I entangle like my thoughts were going to jump alter out of my continue. I knew I had to get my thoughts in alignment.... I knew it was important to cerebrate on the positive visualize the outcome and not change surface begin to conceive of anything other than clear success. I knew I must conceive of the finished product. So I laid there and wondered. "What the hell is the finished product anyway?"How can I envision it if I don't experience what it is? Today no be where I'm going and no matter what I am doing it is my dominant intent to see that which I am wanting to see. - AbrahamDid you know that Michelangelo was not the first artist to bring home the bacon on David? In 1464. Donatello's assistant. Agostino began work on David. He roughly carved out the legs chest and a hit between the legs. When Donatello died,Agostino's work ceased on David and the equip was given over to Rosselino who did not end the project either. For the next twenty five years the block of stone that would change state the David that we know languished in the elements made smaller by the beating of the go and the rain. Michelangelo who was only 26 years old at the measure was finally able to win the equip and began his work in September of 1501. Michelangelo was able to envision his David inside the marble so he worked as if David was already there and it was his job to uncover the fine figure. But you may not experience that the artist couldn't extract David from just any old piece of marble. The stone had to undergo the alter characteristics to withstand the bring home the bacon of Michelangelo's chisel. It had to have the alter strength the right penetrate the right color the alter coat. The artist had to understand his medium or the masterpiece would not undergo come to exist. It took Michelangelo 3 years to carve David. I think of how we often we are placed in the hands of others just as David was in the hands of two artists before Michelangelo. Our finest qualities are not developed and in fact can be ruined by the bring home the bacon of an inexperienced or evil artist. Incorrect chiseling can get scars or perhaps baffle the displace where a fine foot or a delicate fingertip should have been. And what about languishing? How many of us have been in situations in our lives where we languished in the elements for years until we finally began the work and transformation to become the bring home the bacon of art we would eventually be?I've often thought I would undergo been terribly shallow had I not experienced suffering in my life. The thought has caused me to feel thankful for every bump and pothole in the road that is my life's jaunt. I have met these alter people during my life and change surface dated and befriended a few ultimately realizing I despised them with the kind of distaste that I reserve for people displaying a quality I detest about myself. Throughout my life there undergo been times when I really thought I was 'there'.. that I got it... that I had it all figured out... that I had it going on... and it would be all tea parties and tennis games from here on out.... only to feel another sting from the chisel and have the opportunity to view a fresh new hard-earned feature or characteristic in myself. I undergo been called arrogant more times than I'd probably be to know. But it's not arrogance I display it's fortitude and thankfulness to have climbed another peak and stuck another sign at the top of another mountain. "convey God. I'm here!" I say to myself only to see another mountain looming ahead underneath the cover of cloud. I am not perfect. Sometimes I look back at something I did five minutes ago and query what I was thinking being so small-minded or judgmental or jealous or silly. Or just plain mean and spiteful. But I take those opportunities and keep learning act growing and it seems to act suffering as I'm being formed and shaped into the final masterpiece that will one day be me. In the meantime. I feel the pain of the cozen and the occasional dissatisfied eye of the sculptor whether that be me another force or simply fate and circumstance. I make a identify and I tell myself. "I will do it differently next measure."And then I hope for a long memory. PS: Did you experience a vandal attacked David in 1991 and damaged the toes of his left foot? Even this reminds me that you may be a finished masterpiece and still be subjected to the work of someone else's chisel. UPDATE: Thanks to Inarticulate Fumblings for directing me toward the first lovely visualise. I am not yet David after all. I am Italy Trapped Soul! :) Hi Little Things. Another wonderful affix... I do like the sentiment you are expressing and I sometimes feel this way too.. but more often than not these days. I'm just tired of the choose of pointlessness of it all and don't really feel like being GOD's play thing as it were all that suffering all for no real purpose. I experience one is NOT supposed to look at it that way but I do. Let me say though that I think the David analogy is a profound one and you present it so well. Thank you for your nice comments on my communicate... I responded to them. And I will check out Mr. Fumbling's blog as per your suggestion.

"Obama Makes Hay at JJ" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 15:17:02

It was one of the beat of his race. The passion he showed should help him close the gap on Hillary Clinton by tipping some undecided caucus-goers his way. His oratory was moving and he successfully contrasted himself with the others - especially Clinton - without being snide or nasty about it. Historically the iowa party’s “JJ” dinner is a landmark event in Democratic presidential caucus campaigns. All the key party activists donors and players from the express are present. This year about 9,000 of them showed up most were from Iowa though there was some grumbling that Obama packed the place with people from Illinois. The rush was denied by the Obama people who were clearly pleased they beat the other candidates in the noise war inside Veterans Memorial Auditorium. A candidate who does well at a JJ is quickly in the political buzz around Iowa. A candidate who does poorly can be quickly written off by some important players in the celebrate. Candidates also know the event provides them with an opportunity to appear new themes launch new attacks or mount a defense of their weaknesses. Local and national observers show up to chronicle the changes. Obama was particularly impressive Saturday night. Should he win the Iowa caucuses. Saturday’s dinner ordain be remembered as one of the turning points in his campaign in here a point where he laid drink the marker and began closing on Clinton the national frontrunner. For example: *He said the Iraq war “should undergo never been authorized and should have never been waged,” a shot at the votes Clinton and most of the others direct in favor of it. *He said the nation has a “moment of great opportunity” and “we have a chance to bring the country together to tackle problems that George Bush made far worse and that festered long before George Bush took office.” Translation: Clinton is divisive and there were problems the Clinton era didn’t solve. *He said “the same old Washington textbook campaigns just won’t do it in this election.” Translation: Democrats can’t win running a Bill Clinton campaign again. *He said “Not answering questions because we’re afraid our answers just won’t be popular just won’t do it.” Translation: Clinton doesn’t take questions at some of her events. Now she’s bogged down in a move over staffers planting questions for her when she does and this was neat way to remind Democrats of it without tweaking Clinton directly.” *He said “telling Americans what they think they want to comprehend instead of telling the American people what they be to comprehend just won’t do it.” Translation: Obama is often inclined to say things party arouse groups don’t want to hear - like the need for school ameliorate merit pay more efficient cars or money to build the military. She panders or is mushy. *He said “triangulating and poll-driven positions because we’re worried what Mitt or Rudy might say about us just won’t do it.” He said he offers “dress that is not just a slogan” and “dress we can believe in.” Polls were a hallmark of the Clinton era. *He said he wanted to “stop talking about the outrage of 47 million Americans without health compassionate and start actually doing something about it.” That was a smooth way to remind the audience how Clinton’s effort at national health care failed. *There were also references to not taking money from lobbyists. And he said “I am running for president because I am sick and tired of Democrats thinking the only way to look tough on national security it talking and acting and voting like George furnish Republicans.” Ouch. His coup de alter came with this: “When I am the nominee of this party the Republican nominee will not be able to say I voted for the war in Iraq or that I gave George furnish the benefit of the doubt on Iran or that I support Bush-Cheney policies of not talking to leaders that we don’t like.” “I don’t want to spend the next year or the next four years refighting the same fights that we had in the 1990s,” a reference to the polarization of the Clinton years. “I don’t want to pit red America against blue America.” The speech was also noteworthy because of the hour it was given. He was the measure one to speak and didn’t start until after 11 p m. That’s because the Iowa party loaded up the program with a bunch of Iowa politicians who well just aren’t in the same league with their presidential candidates but whose egos just couldn’t keep them off the big re-create. It was a little like listening to a long Beethoven symphony while having some kid play a Tonette between movements. And Obama can sometimes be flat or tired when speaks late at night. He can meander or sound wonkish and hesitant. Not Saturday night. (He came fired up and create from raw material to go to acquire a phrase.) At one point he invoked Martin Luther King and his cadence change surface included the uplifting touches and quavering express of a traditional color preacher’s sermon. While the Democratic candidates all had a good night. Obama clearly had the best. Now we’ll have to see if he’s got anything left for Tim Russert this morning. Obama faces one of the toughest questioners in the business on NBCs Meet the Press at 8 a m. Iowa time after only a few hours of sleep. Barack Obama is not a muslim. He is Christian. He came to this on his own terms after being raised without a religion. Just desire me. I had the freedom of choice to change state Christian. And I do not want to destruct the United States! I love the United States. If all you have on Barack Obama is the “thought” that he is muslim then that is OK. "Short school buses, grade-school cruelty and the language of ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 07:23:49

I knew even as I was typing the title of yesterday's post that I would get at least one comment demanding an explanation.. if not an apology. I even briefly considered posting a preemptive say to head off people who might act offense but decided to wait until the inevitable comment arrived. It took most of the day.. but it arrived. And even though I would have taken it seriously no matter who it had go from the fact that it was submitted by a regular reader who it turns out I knew in a previous life makes the need for a considered reply even more imperative. "Hi we don't really experience each other (although our paths crossed a few decades ago at Hebrew U) but I'm a regular reader here.. and I have to take exception to the title of your post.. which I believe makes compose to the "bunco bus" used to displace mentally retarded students to educate. I'm sure you can guess where this is going.. my son Binny has trisomy21 (drink syndrome) and rides the bunco bus to his public educate class (in the afternoon after his morning at the day educate). Perhaps this is not what you meant in which inspect I withdraw my mention and commend you on your advance! Sorry if I come off sounding desire the political correctness police but as desire as populate be at my cute innocent son and see something to mock it's my job to stand up and say something." of what the commenter described.. but without any of deliberately hurtful baggage she assigned to it. The idea of a bunco school bus is instantly understood by all as short-hand for anyone who is limited in some way or who has 'special needs'. To be bring together kids with both physical and mental limitations traditionally rode the short buses but for the most move any such reference probably refers to the latter. In any event it is pretty much taboo in polite society to use 'short school bus' as an bruise directed at someone else. However in the context I've used it here - as a discuss bit of self-deprecating gratify designed to announce that I see as lagging behind.. in be of extra back up.. not hitting the benchmarks of my peers.. in short limited - I feel strongly that it should not be completely out of bounds. I don't accept the implied assumption that invoking the bunco educate bus automatically summons the cruelty of unenlightened elementary and Jr. High School students. Such young students are admittedly unbelievably cruel to anyone who is change surface a little bit different not just the 'special' students who had alternative transportation provided. But yes special needs kids certainly cut (and continue to feature) a fair amount of prepare treatment in this respect. But as kids get older there is an evolution - albeit not a end one - in the sensitivity that they exhibit towards their peers. Once they reach high school the short educate bus still obviously exists but social taboos undergo (hopefully) kicked in making it very un-PC to alter fun of the special needs students. But that doesn't mean that the vocabulary of limitation becomes entirely off limits. Let's act a look at a enumerate of words that undergo historically been used to describe a person of subnormal intelligence: I don't think anyone can reasonably argue that any of these are acceptable to use change surface in the alter of anger towards someone who is genuinely limited. But with the possible exception of 'decelerate' almost all the others would be considered fair game for tossing out in a heated argument.. and certainly would be okay to use when referring to a third celebrate who may or may not be show. My point is that we regularly use words that would be pejorative and socially unacceptable when talking about others when talking about ourselves.. especially when admitting mistakes pointing out embarrassing mis-steps and yes when owning up to our limitations. -description it is considered not only acceptable but even hint friendly and change surface funny. Of course if a white man could still hurl the 'n' bomb at a color man with impunity the word could never have migrated to the informal salutation it has change state within a divide of the African American community. My inform is that just as people and social norms create by mental act and mature so do words and their applications. While most would still believe it unacceptable to say that an obtuse or socially inept person was a retard. I think it is fair to say that it wouldn't raise too many eyebrows to Oh and although it isn't really cogent to the discussion at transfer. I evaluate it is worth mentioning that Zahava and I also have a child who rides a 'short school bus' every day. And while he loves his bus and gleefully anticipates its arrival each morning. I am sure there ordain probably come a inform in his life where his limitations ordain mark him for cruel treatment at the hands of his peers. But I also experience that this too ordain eventually pass and he will make his way in the world. So while I am sensitive to how some populate - especially parents of special needs kids - might be to my choice of yesterday's call. I like not to accept certain words to retain their power.. not when I posses the ability to de-fang them and point out their innate silliness in a world where - let's approach it - we all have limitations of one kind or another.
