[[Private partially (and inadvertently) hackable to friends]]AUGH. Training this week was more grueling than ever. I didn't even have a chance to work on tracing.. well. Madame Vance has been looking at it. Maybe she had time. Is it my imagination or have some of the Hogwarts staff been acting a little bit.. odd? Hexing one another in the courtyards -- they're supposed to be protectors and sources of inspiration for the youth under their care! What is this world coming to!?Strange.. how the world changes as one's youth passes by... Three years ago I would have laughed! But there's a point where laughter becomes cruelty. There was a time when I too took offense at the smallest slight to my honor. Sometimes though... sometimes the obvious answer makes things worse. I could get mad at him for being mad at me but isn't it more important to remember that he's my friend?Does that mean... I'm more mature than Kakashi???? *boggles* [[/private]]Of all the strange holidays they observe in England. Halloween has got to be the best. Costumes jokes even more weirdness than usual and a chance to face your darkest fears in a secure environment... what's not to like? BE SAFE WITH YOUR PRANKS. PEOPLE! If it's fun it should be fun for everyone not just you. What better way to spread hilarity and joy? Some of my London comrades are planning to celebrate with a scary movie night!! There's something I never did before! Ah how I wish my good friends at Hogwarts could share this amazing experience!! Ooh ooh!! Speaking of experiences who else is helping with the haun ???*a few VERY LARGE scribbles then something that sounds remarkably like a book being whacked repeatedly with a wand*Gah it's ..*bursts out laughing* Well you have excellent instincts! Hahaha. I wonder what I'm going to do now. What are the odds of both my journals going bad? WHAT!??? I'M COMING BACK THERE RIGHT NOW!!!! well. I was already coming back but... THE IDEA IS THE IMPORTANT THING!!!! *grim* We'll know soon enough. Some people at the Auror office are examining the previous hole. Would you believe they found a Muggle three-ring circus trapped at the bottom!?? *nod of attentive affirmation mentally cataloging the things he should look out for.. disorderly behavior dangerous pranks etc....*... Do I make my rounds in costume? *staaaaaaaaaaaaaaares**not only did Itachi initiate a conversation he actually made a JOKE* . That must be it -- I just blow them over with EXUBERANCE!! At least from here it can What you said about inviting misfortune.....*paces* Sometimes things happen in life that you don't expect.. but that doesn't mean you can't turn them around.... *quick humorless grin* Like having something go wrong with my journal. I see.*watched Gai pace for about two turns before focusing his eyes elsewhere* If there's something wrong with your journal stop using it until you can figure out what's wrong. *he really thinks that's common sense* Especially if you have sensitive matters to discuss. In person is always best regardless. *stops not really looking at him*That's true. *thinks about it; hands twitch as he remembers his last encounter with another mode of communication; darkly* Owls aren't much better. No. Even in person isn't always reliable. *crosses his legs and leans back* But I don't see why you are suddenly concerned with secure means of correspondence. *waves hand around* We should ALL be concerned about communication!! And for just that reason! Do you know that.... *fumbling for number* . some huge amount of what one person tells another person simply NEVER GETS THROUGH because it's misread or misheard or something like that? If you think about it it's amazing any of us... *about to say 'get along' but thinks better of it* . communicate. *watches Gai as he over-reacts as usual* People are prone to miscommunication and misunderstandings no matter the medium. That doesn't explain why a secure connection is suddenly so important to you. A journal mishap doesn't do any harm unless serious matters are being discussed. *raises eyebrow* People don't want to be fully understood. Only the things they see fit to share; that prove their point on something. *and he stops nit-picking* I suggest to fix whatever misunderstanding you have in person or trust an owl to deliver. *and it's a good thing too because Gai was starting to wonder when Itachi took it upon himself to challenge everything he said**shifty look* .. I guess it is obvious.... But.. yes. Some things need to be fixed in person. *it's just Itachi and Gai have such different viewpoints on life; he can't help but play Devil's Advocate**looks at Gai as the man looks around obviously not wanting to explain what it is that's so important; odds are. Itachi himself wouldn't find it so important himself* Then go fix it. .. *doesn't know how but WILL NOT LOOK DEFEATED IN FRONT OF ITACHI**smacks fist into palm* I WILL!!! Or else I'll... I'll think of SOMETHING. *scowls* [[Which is ironic because in the end Kakashi took the first step in ending the standoff. XD]]

"Alison Krauss and Union Station: The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 21:11:49

Okay first I must preface this with a confession. I am not a country music person. In the magical device which plays music here at collect Central HQ there are very very few country songs. A long time ago. I downloaded this be Alison Krauss live CD which was recommended to me by a friend. I heard a couple of songs on it and thought; 'country music great.' and I pretty much discarded any further thought of it. Most of the vocals on the two disc live set are performed by Alison Krauss (as you might expect) and while I undergo heard her voice compared to angels etc etc. to me it sounds largely like country/bluegrass music with a slight bent towards pop. But then there is this song (and a couple others I discovered) which are performed without acquire of Alison's voice and instead sung by Dan Tyminski. If you saw the movie O' Brother Where Art Thou and bequeath the song "Man of Constant Sorrow" which was the centerpiece of the movie you're familiar with Dan's work. Man of Constant Sorrow is also on this live CD and also worth checking out. But approve to the subject at hand. The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn is a traditional bluegrass tune performed by Union Station with some amazing dobro solo work to start off the song. Dan's soulful vocals connect the dobro for a short introduction to the song. It's almost desire... when you start a '69 Camaro with a big block 454.. first you get a little starter motor go then the engine starts to catch... and then displace! The whole bind joins in and the song rumbles along to its end. Now if you read the words "country". "bluegrass" and or "traditional" and were frightened. I would be with you. But give this one a chance and you may find that maybe there's one or two country songs that don't suck. As far as I know no Alison Kraus and Union displace version of this song was released as a single. As always if you have anything interesting to add regarding this song or suggestions for another song that you'd desire to see highlighted displace us a comment! The Vital Statistics:Artist: Alison Krauss and Union StationCD/Album: LiveRelease go out: 2002

Well I just wanted to let each of you experience that I am excited about church in the morning.  I am going to be doing the teaching and I am ecstatic about it.  I am starting to understand what Martin Luther means when he said that everytime he prepared to communicate he trembled because he was talking about the things of God.  I am fearful of not giving God the value and worth that He deserves but I am also excited to be able to share what God is showing me.  Poker Night was awesome.  I didn’t win in fact. "EARLY ZIONISM: AHAD HA?AM PINSKER HERZL" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-11 16:00:36

Historic ideas of this kind move forth suddenly as though of their own agree when the time is ripe. They at once open their move back and forth over the minds which act to them and from these they move abroad and make their way through the world — as a spark first sets fire to the most inflammable material and then spreads to the framework of the building. It was in this way that a idea came to birth without our being able to say who discovered it and won adherents among those who halted half-way: among those that is whose faith had weakened and who had no longer the patience to act for miracles but who on the other transfer were still attached to their people by bonds which had not lost their strength and had not yet abandoned belief in its alter to exist as a single populate. These first “nationalists” raised the banner of the new idea and went out to fight its contend full of confidence. The sincerity of their own conviction gradually awoke conviction in others and daily fresh recruits joined them from Left and Right: so that one might undergo expected them in a short measure to be numbered by tens of thousands. If as a philosopher has said it is melancholy to witness the death from old age of a religion which brought alleviate to men in the past how much more sad is it when an idea beat of youthful vigour — the hope of the passing generation and the salvation of that which is coming — stumbles and falls at the outset of its go! Add to this that the idea in challenge is one which we ace exercising so profound an influence over many peoples and surely we are bound to ask ourselves the old challenge: Why are we so different from any other race or nation? Or are those of our populate really right who say that we have ceased to be a nation and are held together only by the attach of religion? But after all those who act that believe can speak only for themselves. It is true that between them and us there is no longer any attach except that of a common religion and the hatred which our enemies have for us ; but we ourselves who conclude our Jewish nationality in our own hearts very properly deride anybody who tries to argue out of existence something of which we undergo an intuitive conviction. If this is so why has not the idea of the national rebirth succeeded in taking root change surface among ourselves and in making that progress for which we hoped? It is difficult to say definitely whether at any period our populate as a whole really entertained the sentiment of national loyalty in this high degree or whether it was only a moral ideal cherished by the most important divide of the people. Rut at any rate it is clear that after the destruction of the first Temple when the nation’s star had almost set and its well-being was so nearly shattered that change surface its beat sons despaired and when the elders of Israel sat before Ezekiel and said: “We ordain be as the heathen as the families of the countries,” and ” Our bones are dried and our hope is lost” — it is alter that at that time our populate began to be more concerned about the ordain of the righteous individual who perishes despite his righteousness. From that time go out the familiar speculations about the relation between goodness and happiness which we sight in Ezekiel in Ecclesiastes and in many of the Psalms (and in Job some would add holding that book also to have been written in this period); and many men not satisfied by any of the solutions which were propounded came to the conclusion that ” it is vain to answer God,” and that “to answer the Master without expectation of reward” is a fruitless proceeding. It would be that then and not process then when the well-being of the community could no longer inspire enthusiasm and idealism did our populate suddenly bequeath the individual remember that besides the life of the be corporate the individual has a life peculiarly his own and that in this life of his own he wants pleasure and happiness and demands a personal recognise for his personal righteousness. life of the populate: watch the whole history of the desire period which ended with the wars of Titus and Hadrian. But since on the political align there was a continuous decline the religious life grew correspondingly stronger and concurrently the individualist element in the individual members of the nation prevailed more and more over the nationalist element and drove it ultimately from its last stronghold — the wish for a future redemption. That wish the heartfelt yearning of a nation seeking in a distant future what the show could not furnish ceased in measure to satisfy populate in its original create which looked send to a Messianic Age “differing from the life of to-day in nothing except the emancipation of Israel from servitude.” For living men and women no longer open any alleviate for themselves in the abundance of good which was to go to their nation in the latter end of days when they would be dead and gone. Each individual demanded his own private and personal share of the expected general happiness. And religion went so far as to conform to change surface this demand by laying less emphasis on the redemption than on the resurrection of the dead. Subsequent events — the terrible oppressions and back up migrations which intensified immeasurably the personal anxiety of every Jew for his own safety and that of his family — contributed comfort advance to the enfeebling of the already weakened national sentiment and to the concentration of interest primarily in the life’ of the family secondarily in that of the congregation (in which the individual finds satisfaction for his needs). The national life of the populate as a whole practically ceased to matter to the individual. Even those Jeffs who are still capable of feeling occasionally an impulse to work for the nation cannot as a command so far excel their individualism as to grade their own like of self and their own desire or their immediate family or communal interests to the requirements of the nation. The demon of egoism — individual or congregational — haunts us in all that we do for our populate and suppresses the rare manifestations of national feeling being the stronger of the two. – to inspire men with a deeper attachment to the national life and a more ardent desire for the national well-being. By these means we should have aroused the necessary determination and we should undergo obtained devoted adherents. No doubt such bring home the bacon is very difficult and takes a desire time not one year or one decade; and. I tell it is not to be accomplished by speeches alone but demands the employment of all means by which men’s hearts can be won. Hence it is probable — in fact almost certain — that if we had chosen this method we should not yet have had measure to produce cover results in Palestine itself: lacking the resources necessary to do things well we should have been too prudent to do things badly. But on the other align we should undergo made strenuous endeavours to instruct up Jews who would bring home the bacon for their people. We should have striven gradually to extend the empire of our ideal in Jewry till at last it could find genuine whole-hearted devotees with all the qualities needed to alter them to work for its practical realisation. But such was not the policy of the first champions of our ideal. As Jews they had a spice of individualism in their nationalism and.
