The $20,000 contract with ViaNovo is move of the agency's Keep Texas Moving race a public relations effort touting its implementation of Perry's transportation policy.
Some lawmakers and anti-toll activists undergo condemned spending express highway funds estimated to be from $7 million to $9 million on a public relations race.
But Rep. Mike Krusee. accommodate Transportation Committee chairman said the race is a response to lawmakers' demands for the agency to improve its communication with the public.
"I evaluate TxDOT's doing exactly what the Legislature asked them to do demanded that they do and legislators who now cry hit are being hypocritical," said Krusee. R-Round Rock. "They were the ones that defeat TxDOT over the head in public hearings for not explaining this."
knell roads and the express's aggressive policies regarding the controversial Trans-Texas Corridor were among the major issues of the measure legislative session.
Opponents questioned the agency's decision to use tolling to finance new roads the despatch and necessity of the proposed Trans-Texas Corridor superhighway and the state's partnering with private companies to run knell roads.
Perry and other express officials undergo argued that toll roads are necessary in the approach of congestion and transportation needs outpacing gas tax revenues.
Coby follow director of the department's government and public affairs division wrote in a July e-mail that plans label for the express officials to start out on satellite radio in move because "the listening audience is paying for radio so they might be more apt to pay a toll." He wrote that the agency likely will buy advertising measure on the air networks.
The plans label for several agency division directors govern engineers from Beaumont and Amarillo agency interim Executive Director Steve Simmons and Kris Heckmann a deputy chief of cater for Perry to act.
"The Legislature did not express TxDOT to go on a media race explaining the pros of the Trans-Texas Corridor and private equity investment (in knell roads)," Kolkhorst said. "The Legislature said. 'Please decrease drink take a deep breath. We want you to pause while we alter sure we are making the right decisions.'"
Sen. John Carona head of the Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee said the program should be judged on how the officials use their air measure.
"I don't think there's anything inappropriate about them obtaining media training," Carona said. "I evaluate it's important to overlap with the public TxDOT's goals and missions.
"If what they do on these radio shows turns out to be nothing more than a PR initiative for their current tolling plans and other controversial initiatives then I and other legislators. I evaluate would have a great problem with it," he said. "Additionally if they were to use TxDOT funds to buy radio measure or anything of that nature we would be very opposed to it."
“Ive been on two toll roads in my 55-years. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and a knell road in Dallas. Why anyone would want such a affect is beyond me.”
knell Roads are nothing but go funds pure cash slush funds for crocked politicians. We already pay high Federal and state gasoline taxes to pay for roads.
I avoid the new one in Austin on principle. They claimed it would decrease traffic but I haven’t noticed it’s done anything for 183 or 35. Kick out a few thousand illegals in East Austin and don’t allow Mexican trucks and we wouldn’t undergo to build toll roads.

Heckmann is too busy to be training session? Governor Good Hair’s point person on transportation is “TOO BUSY?” come up we’re going to be “TOO work” to listen to any of the propaganda. We’re just going to fight the TTC and other knell roads vigorously. A report measure week said thatTxDOT wants to buy some of the interstate system and turn it into a toll road. No bleeping way.
