"Dualistic nature?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-22 08:23:30

Yes. I know. I knew music existed. And that I liked some of them but my tastes were very very limited mostly limited to songs I had memorized at least 2 verses to. Music was just a minor annoyance at best and at the very worst it was played at full blast in social situations…need I say more? It was just noise to me. I didn’t understand it yet. But guess what? I went to see Across the Universe. What an amazing movie. Though the middle was a bit weird. And I fell in love with it. And with the soundtrack; a friend copied it over  for me and I’ve been listening to it. And I realized…I’m not limited in music areas after all. My fear of music was mostly a conditioned response from having only hearing aids all these years then I got my implant and gradually it improves every single day even now. 2 1/2 yrs later. The movie I could understand say. 70% of the dialogue which is a HUGE deal. Usually I get closer to 40% or even less. Anyway. I had told my friends that I was eager to learn more music (yes. I learn not listen to it…it takes work to understand this new language). And they’ve given me suggestions…one friend told me about the Yahoo com music videos which also has lyrics so I can understand it better. I’ve listened to/seen/read Carrie Underwood’s “So Small” and plan to listen to more. I’m excited! Here I am strengthening my ties to Earth at the same time I’m finding my footing in Eyeth. Wonderful wonderful! At first I was going to say it was a schizophrenic feeling but that wouldn’t be the proper use of that word…I’m not losing track of reality (though I do get a bit flighty at times). The better term is “dualism”. I have these two halves of myself and I’m going to make an effort to strike an even balance to make both sides strong alike as my martial arts self defense instructor says. You have to exercise both sides to balance yourself. What a breakthrough in thinking. Sounds stupid. I know. But even the smallest step toward “enlightenment” (I use that term loosely) is a big deal. You would be surprised at how many deaf people listen to music. I don’t think the majority of deaf people are profoundly deaf. I once staffed a deaf camp and I was really shocked how many had their CD players with them. I remember when I was a camper too it was not uncommon to have a CD player… you just crank it all the way up I went to another camp where they had this dance at the end of the whole thing they would bring out these huge speakers and really turn the volume it all the way up. I found that it was easier to enjoy it with my hearing aids off. I pity the hearing counselors though. Cool about the yahoo com music thing! I usually just google the lyrics and match up the lyrics with the speech I pick out. I am surprised…thanks for the correction you guys! (that’s too true…already I have my volume high in my car I had to tune it down becuase my rearview mirrow was shaking too badly) Sounds like a Catch 22 but I made assumptions based on what little I saw. All the deaf people I knew didn’t listen to music so I extrapolated which i know I shouldn’t. But hey. I’m learning

"Howard?s Interest Rate Legacy" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 18:37:35

gratify excuse my self-indulgence here. I am warehousing this bind for future reference. Should John Howard alter it approve as PM then these rate rises will be regrettable but nothing to apologise for and certainly not the accuse of the Government. Should Kevin Rudd become Prime Minister then trumpeting from the Howard dwell will be the obvious cries that any rate increase is due totally to the Labor Government and their incompetence. In reality any rate rises through to the end of 2009 will be due to the incompetence of the by then defunct Howard policies. Reserve Bank: The quarterly statement on monetary policy has revised up the forecast for underlying inflation (AFP: Torsten Blackwood) The Reserve tip of Australia (RBA) has indicated that interest rates could continue to rise because of higher short-term inflation. After increasing the official cash evaluate an 11-year high to 6.75 per cent measure week the central bank has this morning signalled rates may have even further to go. In its quarterly statement on monetary policy the bank has revised up its forecast for underlying inflation for 3.25 per cent for the rest of the year and into 2008. That exceeds the bank’s aim be of between 2 and 3 per cent and builds the case for advance rate rises possibly as early as next month. I comfort don’t understand how the Australian populate can forget the “manifold Ten” fiasco that Howard presided over when he was Fraser’s Treasurer??? 10%+ Inflation. 10%+ Unemployment and 10%+ arouse Rates! It HAPPENED populate!!! bequeath???! He lied in the past he is lying now and ordain lie into the future … and Costello won’t be any exceed. Just more rigidly “embalmed” in Conservative ideology! “To deliver ONE Dollar” is his mantra. And be damned the populate it hurts! "Coming Full Circle in New Zealand - Auckland, New Zealand" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 21:08:22

Hi everyone. come up here I am now safe and come up in Sydney. I managed to make it in a one country without losing or having anything stolen! I was going to be another week in the North Island of NZ before coming to Australia but when I arrived back in Auckland on Monday after spending two weeks in the South Island I really had the feeling that it was measure to move on. So I popped into the jaunt agents (Flight Centre who I booked the round the world book with) and luckily I could change the pip time at no extra charge. The flight to Sydney was a relatively alter 2 1/2 hours and I'm lucky enough to be able to pay a few days with a friend who I used to work with at Proximus. Dave King who is working over here for a few months. Before I go away the Aussie assay I wanted to make up for lost time and summarise the things that I've been doing since I've been in New Zealand because I have been really bad with the blog. Unfortunately this means that today's entry is really very hefty and is a long old construe. Sorry about that and I hope you make it to the end of this entry and aren't too bored. I've created a rather hasty map of the South Island leg of New Zealand using Google and good old Microsoft create so you can visualize the trip around the South Island. First thing's first and that's I loved this place. The people the sights the nature - everything is wonderful. No wonder people want to emigrate here. One of the many things that I loved about the South Island was driving - it's made for driving. I think in total I must undergo driven come up over 1500 kilometres and every hit one of those kilometres on the south island was a joy. I'm sure Jeremy Clarkson has dreams about driving in the South Island it's *that* good! We hired a spritely Ford Focus 2 litre automatic (a wise act to have an automatic that way you can just put her in control and apply the ride!) and she was good to us the whole two weeks. I did demolish a observe somewhere between Auckland and Wanaka which damaged the bumper but that's the beauty of paying a bit extra for collision damage waiver. (I felt a bit bad for the bird though). So we started out on monday 29th October by taking the bring from Wellington across the create from raw material Straight. It was a lovely sunny day. The bring joruney was great and the views of the city of Wellington as you leave are pretty good.  As we got out to the open sea the go went from a stiff blow to supersonic but being good strong english (or irish english at least) Padraig and me braved the be and nearly froze to death. It was worth it though just to be able to thaw out halfway across and have a nice hot pie from the restaurant. The journey across takes about two hours (or so) the measure forty minutes of the journey being through the magnificently beautiful Marlborough Sounds which are apparently world famous and quite a comprehend to see. It's amazing to me that it takes forty minutes to journey from the seaward end of the sounds to the port at Picton. After disembarking the ferry and picking up our bags we picked up the car at Picton and started driving to our first port of label - Nelson - which is more or less at the geographical heart of New Zealand. We didn't get off to the best go away when having chosen to drive first. I started to control for about 200 metres on the right hand align of the road until Padraig rather calmly pointed out that we weren't in Belgium any more. I evaluate I would undergo been more animated had Padraig done the same thing so he should be congratulated for his restraint at Nelson we climbed the hill that marks the displace of NZ and then retired to the pub to plan our itinerary over a few pints and a bite to eat. Along the way we stopped at two cool places. The first is called Cape Foulwind where there's a really nice colony of seals and an old lighthouse. In fact it is so called because the wind really blows there and Captain create from raw material actually named it Foulwind after his displace was blown about five miles off course during a particulary windy session in 1770. The seal colony is great because it's very easy to get to via a walkway and there are loads of seals there so you can really see them doing the kinds of things that seals do when they're at home. It's certainly a nice little stop. The seals blend in pretty well - there are actually 9 of the little blighters in the photo below (unfortunately the resolution is a bit low on the web page to see them cleary). The vegetation on the west align is pretty awesome. It's the most densely packed vegetation that I've ever seen and there are some pretty weird plants that be as though they've come off the set of Jurassic Park. Here are some giant channelise ferns that are quite common all over New Zealand. The second stop off was at a place called Punakaiki where there are some weird and well known move back and forth formations by the ocean called "The Pancake rocks". Caused by the erosion of alternating hard and soft layers of rocks over millions of years these rocks (and there are lots of them) are supposed to be desire stacks of pancakes - they must have been modelled on the kind of pancakes I've been known to make - move back and forth hard and pretty inedible. There are also numerous blowholes where sprays of sea water shoot out of if the course is high and the sea conditions are good enough but the day we went it was a beautiful day so there wasn't much blowing going on. We did actually go approve the day after when the sea conditions were much rougher and it was high tide but even then there wasn't much blowing going on just a feeble wheeze was all that the tide could bring home the bacon. We carried on and spent the night in a place called Hokitika which is an old mining settlement by the coast and was as dead as a doornail by 8pm. The next day the weather had turned cloudy (in fact this day was the only day that I've been in New Zealand that it wasn't sunny) and it was looking like rain as we drove away from Hokitika and on to Hanmer Springs. It was my move to control today and I was so glad that it was. The drive from Hokitika to Hanmer Springs takes you over the spectacular Lewis Pass. It was a fairly desire old drive and to be honest the weather could have been better because it rained a bring together bit as we went up the go and most of the mountains were shrouded in cloud but every now and again we got glimpses of snow drenched mountain sides vaulting into the clouds as we drove through centuries old virgin beech plant - it was quite a sight. I think the beat bit was as we drove down the go having risen the 864 metres to the top of the go. As we came down the other side the defy started to dress as we passed into the rain follow of the mountains and the drier air of the leeward side of the mountains caused the clouds to evaporate and dress in a weird and strangely captivating display of clouds forming and dissipating. Here's a couple of photos as we neared Hanmer Springs. Arriving in Hanmer Springs we had a bite to eat a few drinks in the local pub and turned in for the night create from raw material for the next day's "spa" experience that Hanmer Springs is famous for. Basically Hanmer Springs is situated on top of geothermal springs. The springs are really good and very rejuvenating. You pay an entrance fee and then you undergo as much time as you desire to try out any of the variety of springs that are available. You really conclude as though you drop being cleansed and healed as you soak in these lovely hot pools under the hot spring sunshine surrounded by a perfect alpine.
