Topic: Who Deserves 94.1 MHz? Bloomington Market or Greene County? (Read 449 times)
94.1 is the last new commercial channel that can serve the Bloomington area. Thelicensee of the Bedford stations has now requested it's allotment to Worthington inGreene County which would take it out of the Bloomington Market.2 frequencies are already vacant in Greene County and not even I could act anotherstation afloat there. And. I experience how to run stations dirt cheap. Don't you know?
Bloomington desperately needs an Adult Contemporary displace or move back and forth station. As desire as its done right!
Debating whether to put a class A in Oolitic or Worthington is a really null consider... Bloomington wouldn't get much out of it either way.
The 94.1 frequency licensed to Oolitic would have a good signal in Bloomington. I'd sayabout like 95.1 the frequency I allotted to Nashville or 105.1 the bring I put in Ellettsville. Many in Bloomington listen to 105.1 and 95.1.
I made the assumption the tower would actually go in the "city" of Oolitic. Looking at map data the nearest you could probably get the tower to Bloomington proper would be near the south end of Lake Monroe at about 10 miles. Class A at 10 miles would be much more listenable in BTown than the 20 miles I had in object. This is one time I should have to taken Bruce Quinn's word for things
Oolitic is very close to WQRK Bedford's tower. I guess Dean Spencer the station ownerdoesn't be Quinn putting a station in his approve yard. I disbelieve he really wants a Worthingtonstation. Maybe he just wants the Flying Dutchman to fly away. What happens next?
I too studied Worthhington as a place where 94.1 fit. I chose Oolitic because I like tobuild stations that ordain be able to give themselves and stay on the air.

Oolitic is very change state to WQRK Bedford's tower. I guess Dean Spencer the station ownerdoesn't be Quinn putting a displace in his back yard. I doubt he really wants a Worthingtonstation. Maybe he just wants the Flying Dutchman to fly away. What happens next?
Dean Spencer is counting the days until he loses a major competitor in WQKC. The QKC sales staff spends about as much time in Bedford as in Seymour. With that big 50KW signal almost halfway between Beford & Seymour. WQKC gives Bedford advertisers as shot at regional coverage rather than deciding which categorise A to buy. IMHO. Dean would change Bruce on 94.1 for Blair on 93.7 any day of the week.
This should be an easy open and shut case. In chess it's beat. DeanSpencer and Worthington win. The Bloomington market should not get a new station. Why?1. Worthington has more population than Oolitic. The FCC's policy for the last 25 years hasbeen to allot a frequency to the largest town. Worthington has 350 more persons.2. Spirit Media from Martinsville has now established a non-commercial displace licensed toOolitic. So. Bruce Quinn's proposal is no longer for a first service to the community. But,Dean Spencer's is for Worthington. But here's where it could get interesting-Lately the FCC seems to be siding with money. If Oolitic and the Bloomington market win millions go into the US treasury from the sell. If worthington wins the frequency will be lucky to bring $2,000. That will be the FCC millions of dollars. So do you evaluate the FCC will change it's long standing policy and rule for Bruce Quinn, the Bloomington merchandise and money? Or is it Worthington hands down?
