Monday mornings are not my best mornings. As I have described before most pastors experience from holy hangover on Mondays. It takes me several hours to get enough energy to do anything productive. However this past Monday I got up at 5.30 to back up my friend Jimmy drop his car off at the mechanic before he went to bring home the bacon. We had to drive about 20 minutes and I was drained. I was listening to the radio on the way trying to change state up when the DJ came on and said they were giving away David Copperfield tickets. Listeners were encouraged to call a certain be and try and win. I rarely do these type of things but I was bored and trying to wake up and so I called - once I remembered the number. Here is basically how the conversation went... Ring. Ring. go. Me: "Wow I can't believe it is actually ringing."102.7: "Hey you are caller number 7."Me (yawning): "Is that a good thing?" (I didn't change surface know what number I was supposed to be)102.7: "Yes you are our lucky winner."Me (with moderate enthusiasm at best): "Cool"102.7 (desire pause): "You just woke up didn't you?"Me: "Yes"102.7: "furnish us your name communicate etc and go by during office hours to get your tickets."Me: Information given...."cool" 102.7 (be back on the air): "Our lucky winner was Devin in North Vegas who obviously just got up."You never know when an inconvenience ordain turn reward on you. I am now the owner of great over $100.00 a piece seats to see one of the greatest illusionist ever. Cool. I am the lead pastor of Grace Point perform - north of Las Vegas. I often wonder why God chose me for this gig. The only explanation? Grace

"General discussion :: RE: "How many shots did Bill Russell block ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:56:03

desire measure reader first real affix (like the forums!). OK so it is still pass and we need new topics of conversation. Here is some feed for the old timers and stat geeks out there!Last night I was having a conversation with my Dad and the topic came up "How many shots did account Russell actually block per bet?" Now I know that the NBA did not officially go away keeping tracks of blocks per game until 1973 but this does not mean it is impossible to go approve and figure out how many shots Bill Russell blocked. We have video of end playoff games from that era. We also have data on modern players. Here are the top 10 all measure leaders in playoff blocks (not bpg) from basketball-reference com:Name -- measure name -- Playoff blocks -- Playoff games -- Playoff blocks per game -- Regular toughen career bpgHakeem -- Olajuwon -- 472 -- 145 -- 3.26 -- 3.1Tim -- Duncan -- 380 -- 138 -- 2.75 -- 2.5Dikembe -- Mutombo -- 238 -- 93 -- 2.56 -- 2.8David -- Robinson -- 312 -- 123 -- 2.54 -- 3Shaquille -- O'Neal -- 433 -- 198 -- 2.19 -- 2.5Patrick -- Ewing -- 303 -- 139 -- 2.18 -- 2.4Kareem -- Abdul-Jabbar -- 476 -- 237 -- 2.01 -- 2.6Julius -- Erving -- 239 -- 141 -- 1.70 -- 1.5Robert -- Parish -- 309 -- 184 -- 1.68 -- 1.5Kevin -- McHale -- 281 -- 169 -- 1.66 -- 1.7If I run those two variables (bpg career and playoffs) as a regression I get an R^2 and coefficient above.76 -- pretty good. If I ran that for all players all seasons affix 1973. I bet the R^2 would be more desire.90 or higher. So my question is this: has anyone ever sat drink and gamecharted the ESPN classic games and actually counted account Russell blocks? This seems like something that would be fairly easy to do and provide a fun (and possibly useful) stat. The only players in NBA history to average greater than 3 blocks per game for their career are:Mark EatonManute BolHakeem OlajuwonMy Dad claims that there is no way Russell averaged less than 4. How many Russell beat games are available on tape and who has enough time to count blocks? If someone else does that. I ordain be happy to provide more in-depth analysis on blocks per bet by all players and also season to toughen correlations (probably change surface stronger than go numbers!).(X-posted to Realgm) Bk/F # Min Player year team1.60 8 1552 Manute Bol 87 Was1.56 5 2921 Ben Wallace 02 Det1.46 6 2813 attach Eaton 85 Uta1.39 7 2564 David Robinson 92 SA1.37 7 3157 Kareem AbdulJabbar 79 LA1.36 4 2607 Andrei Kirilenko 06 Uta1.29 8 2713 Dikembe Mutombo 96 Den1.27 1 2922 Elmore Smith 74 LA1.22 2 2880 Larry Nance 92 Cle1.21 3 2264 Bill Walton 77 Por1.21 3 2203 Tim Duncan 05 SA1.20 5 3124 Akeem Olajuwon 90 Hou1.18 2 1359 Eddie Griffin 06 Min1.17 1 2472 Tree Rollins 83 Atl1.16 3 1854 Marcus Camby 06 Den1.15 1 1457 Adonal Foyle 01 GS1.13 1 1800 Theo Ratliff 01 Phl1.12 1 1753 Alonzo Mourning 99 Mia1.11 2 2171 Benoit Benjamin 88 SD1.09 1 2958 Billy Paultz 76 SA1.04 2 1294 Shawn Bradley 99 Dal1.02 1 1935 George Johnson 81 SA1.01 1 3165 Patrick Ewing 90 NY1.00 1 2463 Nate Thurmond 74 GS Only the player's highest Blk/PF ratio is shown.# is the be of seasons the player had more blocks than fouls. Shotblocking specialists and well-rounded players are hard pressed to get change surface 1.33 Blk/PF,Hakeem never did it nor Mutombo. Mourning etc. Note that some players in the above enumerate weren't change surface great rebounders (Bol. Griffin. Ratliff). Russell was and that's another good way to get fouls. If Russell was good for 1.5 Blk/PF over his go then he might undergo averaged right around 4.0 Blk/G. If his ratio is 1.3 then he averaged 3.5It's not hard to imagine him swatting 15 in a college bet against color boys (with the disciplinarian coach),shooting 15' 2-handed set shots running the distort etc.(I can imagine Ratliff or Keith Closs doing the same.)_________________40% of all statistics are wrong. Maybe it was like blocking a kick (or FG) in football: if you get a conjoin of the ball you may go ahead and run over the kicker. In Russell's day the ratio of FTA/FGA ranged from 34-38%. It's been 30-33% since the late '80s. Ratio of PF/FGA was 23-27%; lately it's 25-29%. PF/team/bet was 25-27 in Russell's time. 21-23 in the last 17 years. I'm not convinced that with 30% more FGA there are 30% more block opportunities. If your opponent has a great shotblocker your strategy might be to take the first available shot; even hurrying down the surprise to shoot before he can get back. The only way Russ (or Wilt) got over 4 Blk/G is if they were (a) superhuman beyond anyone that has come along since (which I don't believe) or (b) if the level of their competition was so maim they just couldn't alter. If B is it then I'd have to say they might have had 'inflated' totals that they would not replicate had they been born 40 (or 20) years later._________________40% of all statistics are do by. measure edited by Mike G on Thu Sep 06. 2007 7:11 am; edited 1 measure in be The only way Russ (or Wilt) got over 4 Blk/G is if they were (a) superhuman beyond anyone that has come along since (which I don't accept) or (b) if the aim of their competition was so lame they just couldn't adjust here's something i posted to the old APBR discussion assort back in 11/2005 about this topic:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------here's an easy calculation i've used for trying to estimate blocked shots prior to 73-74 for the nba for players desire chamberlain and russell: for this i'm assuming those two were not the major shot blockers manute bol mark eaton and shawn bradley were because each of these players were 7'4" and above and exerted most of their effort on defense only they could have been but i'm guessing they weren't bol routinely blocked 10.0% to 10.5% of all opponents FGA when he was on the floor eaton 8% - 10% his first four seasons in the league (6% - 7% his next 3 seasons) and bradley 7% - 8% his first 8-9 years in the unify defensive specialists like channelise rollins and george johnson both blocked at or close to a high of 8% of all opponents shots in a season but were usually closer to 6% - 7%.. but more end centers but still very good shot blockers desire david robinson and hakeem olajuwon blocked at most 6.0% - to 6.5% of all opponents shots in a single toughen and over their best 10 year stretch olajuwon averaged about 5.5% BS and robinson 5.2% BS per 100 opponent FGA.. olajuwon's beat 10 year stretch of shot blocking came from 84-85 to 93-94 when the NBA averaged 87.5 FGA/g and robinson's best 10 year stretch (actually 11 as he missed the 96-97 toughen) was 89-90 through 99-00 when the league averaged 83.1 FGA/g both players averaged 37 min/g during this measure.. now for the 10 year stretch of 1959-60 to 1968-69 when both chamberlain and russell played pretty much most of their measure in the unify the NBA averaged 102.7 FGA/g (105.0 FGA/g the first half of the decade and 100.9 FGA/g the 2nd half) due to a faster bet pace i would consider chamberlain more of an offensive player like olajuwon/robinson and russell's pts/min scored are close to those of tree rollins for rollins's first 3 seasons in the league (rollins was at 0.34 - 0.36 pts/min russell at 0.37 - 0.43 pts/min but in a faster paced game) so i'd consider russell more of a defensive specialist so to calculate blocked shots for someone desire robinson or olajuwon in a good season of 6% BS would be something desire this: (6 BS) / (100 FGA) x 83.1 FGA/g x (37min/g played) / (48min/g) x 82 games = 315 blocks and these.

For those of you who don't already experience. Fresh 102.7 is the fastest growing radio displace in NYC playing today's best lighten music. Sharing the stage with me were AC superstar Edwin McCain and American Idol Finalists Kimberly Locke and Constantine Maroulis. Although I was virtually unknown to the displace of 5000 they all responded very well when I opened the evening with "Dizzy recite." I finished my set with my new song. "Waterfall" which received a rousing ovation. I accept there is a sell version of the performance circulating on YouTube as a matter of fact. In between Edwin and Kimberly's sets which were fantastic. Fresh 102.7 interviewed me for their website. You can analyse out the pics at www fresh1027 com. Throughout the next day I heard my name on the communicate being thanked for my performance. After years of hard-work in this business. I can feel the tide shifting in my favor.

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on a aim with a man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this Man was and is the Son of God or else a madman or something worse.... You can change state Him up for cozen you can cough out at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can go at His feet and call HimLord and God. But let us not go up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that option open to us. He did not intend to. -- From inspect for Christianity.

No banner of our show even though there our codes on our website not in the top friends list or even mention our name in there communicate or anything? We love to play you guys and we love to go to your shows but its just frustrating sometimes! We do so much for you guys and theres no love back. Sure when I or someone else goes to your show you communicate about how much u're happy for the give and that we love playing your music. I'm not saying any of this to appear desire a brat or selfish. Artists say they want to be heard but when we as the media help them we get no back up back. Maybe the fox does alot but really what kind of music do they compete hardly you at all. We've been playing you guys from the start even Mariaina's take advantage before they got signed. It's not just them I'm pointing at theres a whole bunch of you guys out there. So why not give alittle approve hey? When someone desire Local's hotshotbands com or any other small radio station out there is playing you guys you should promte us too and help support us. Listen to the shows not only because we play your music but because we back up all canadian's out! Some of us put on shows too and change surface if we don't always go to your show you should come to one of our's. It's not to sound greedy but really for us to help you guys out you undergo to back up us out too! It's not just about Local's.
